Hi I have a new springer puppy 12 weeks old called Dylan. He has been so good settling in goes in his bed at night with no crying but is up @ 5am goes out to do his business has breakfast then goes back to sleep!! I then put him back in his cage so I can go back to bed but he then just crys and wakes everyone up in the house. Has any one have any suggestions good points to keep him sleeping in.

What time is he settling down at night? Is there any way of delaying that so he'll sleep in a bit? (I'm sure 6 or even 7 o'clock would be nice for you!)

Also, if you don't already, put a blanket over his crate when he's settling in for the night, and after his morning pee, so that he associates darkness with being sleepy.

We keep our little one up till atleast 10.30 ( only had her since Saturday so only 3 nights so far) and try and wear her out and not let her sleep early evening. As I'm up early for work, I let het out in the garden at 6.00, dont hear a peep till I go downstairs, make a fuss and have a play for 20 minutes and then put her in her back in the crate at 6.30, the wife said she had a wimper for 10 minutes this morning and then fell asleep again till 7.30 biggrin.gif

As mentioned, we also put a blanket over the top of the crate, makes her feel more secure.

Hopefully a sign of things to come wink.gif

So I'd say keep her up as long as possible and see what happens smile.gif

Ours came with age, we used to be up at 5, then half 5, then we got to 6 and 7 am, which was brilliant, now we can go till 8 some mornings, and occasionally we've slept in by mistake and she's not been bothered to moan until 9!! This was all luck more than judgement, and took us a good year... sorry! biggrin.gif

I think I'd be inclined to give him his breakfast in a Kong and put them both in the crate.

perhaps the crate in your bedroom. I wouldnt try to keep him awake as I always find they just get overtired and other problems can then occur (a bit like trying to keep a baby awake all day so it will sleep through the night, never worked for me just had a howling overtired baby!!)
I do think as they get older they get more chilled out, and I try not to get up the same time every day so they dont start acting like an alarm clock.
Good Luck
