Interests We are a small group of Springer enthusiasts who have worked in the Rescue area for a number of years. In 1998 we became a registered charity. Our aim being to care for and re-home ,where possible, any unwanted ,stray or neglected Springer Spaniels.

Despite our title we cover a much larger geographical area and have helped dogs in areas ranging Northumberland to the North Midlands and and have found them homes all over the UK.

Needless to say most of our spare time is spent helping these Springers and raising funds to help pay for their time with us which can be quite costly.

SYESSR believe that all Springers deserve to be given every chance to live their full life regardless of their age or disability. Only on veterinary advice and when quality of life is poor is euthanasia considered. This ethos is a costly one and means extra income has to be found to support these dog, some of whom are in foster homes (with SYESSR footing all vet bills) and others who have been in the kennels for more than 2 years.

One of these dogs is Smudger, here is his story.

Smudger is now 4 years old and has endured severe abuse which has left him incontinent. As a 6 month old dog someone tried to dock his tail using a ligature. His tail rotted and they panicked and tried to drown him. He was saved by a neighbour's intervention and taken to a vet for attention. Unfortunately his tail could not be saved and to halt the spread of infection into his spine, his tail was amputated. However, as a result of this or the trauma, he lost bowel/bladder control. When rescued he was chained to a metal crate outdoors as his incontinence and a baby didn't mix. Despite his ordeals he is a lively, loving dog and although it is hoped that a very special person can be found to care for him, it is unlikely which means the charity needs to fund his care indefinitely.

To help raise funds to care for these dogs we run two sponsorship schemes, details of these can be found at www.syessr.co.uk (follow the springer link). You will also be able to find out more about our charity and also see photographs of Smudger and the some more of our fantastic dogs.
