well - things were going so well - when i came home today meg was almost her normal self - too good to be true!!! almost being her normal self she was back to being busy - and unfortunately slipped on the laminate floor - she screamed and was obviously in great pain - so our scheduled return for a check up on thurs had to become another emergency visit ... cant believe it -didnt think of the floor as a threat - particularly since most of it is covered with mat .... the leg which suffered has been the leg which she has been limping with the last few days - vet checked her over and still nothing appears to be broken but obviously something is amiss - she had an opiate pain killer to help her through the night. Got home and she has been v strssed - lots of panting and dribbling - extremely hard to see her in so much pain - shes going intomorrow am - and having a ga for the xray which is worrying -
she seemed to settle after a bit - pain killer muct have kicked in however, she suddenly decided she needed to go out - we lifted her out and she had awful dioreah - which the veyt has assured me is likely due to the pain killers - she was distraught again after this - but has now eventually settled again ...
hoping tomorrow will give us some idea of what we are dealing with so can be treated - anyone have any ingenius ideas how to keep her calm and settled while we get to the bottom of this?

Sorry, new to all this! but when Molly had her accident the only way to settle her was to sleep in the next room with the door open so she could see me and vice versa.Good luck at the vets tomorrow. I never gave laminate flooring a second thought, will have to get extra mats in now!

we have been sleepin downstairs in the lounge with her for the last couple of nights - and have come to the realisation this may now be a long term temp arrangment!

Sorry to hear about poor meg, hope all goes well with the xray.

My vet told me Angel isn't allowed to walk on lino, laminate or anything she may slip on, hence why i had to get the strip of carpet so she could go in the garden. If you do resort to this get someone else to lay it - its hard when you then cant open the blasted door laugh.gif ph34r.gif

Sending loads of healing thoughts

Let us know how she gets on

hey there
xray showed that she has popped her hip out vets have popped it back in and she is in a sling at the moment (a very stylish blue one may i add - with her name on! - will try and get a pic if poss) - vet says that it was likely resultant of the rta trauma and braught to light properly by the slip on the floor - the hope is that the joint will naturally heal however, sthere is a strong poss that it will need to be pinned - but fingers crossed - sling is going to be checked tomorrow - and monitored closely this week - she seems a lot happier than yesterday and a lot more comfortable
she also has gastric medicine since she has developed dioreah (which is rather messy when she isnt moving her tail out of the way) prob as a result of the metacam - she also has antibiotics incase it is viral - so lots of bottles and tubes of things to deal with!
with ref to the floor we are all currently walking around on mats, cardboard etc all taped down to teh laminate ... plan is to buy a big off cut of carpet and put it down to help for teh next few weeks .... also thinking of getting her a crate to help keep her quiet - any suggestions about this woudl be graetfully received - is not something i know much about.....
thanks for all your best wishes and own stories is nice to hear that others have been through similar things -obviously not that they have beeen through similar things- but that there can certainly be light at the end of the tunnel! is helping us to stay positive!

Poor little Meg! Im sure she looks very pretty in her blue sling smile.gif

With regards to the crate check with your vet tomorrow on how much/little Meg should be doing. To be honest i would get one if you can anyway. If the vet says she doesn't need to be crated 24/7, it will still be useful to be able to put her in it if she gets too excited. Plus if you do have to go out i would put her in it so you know she is not jumping up and down while you are not looking! Meg may also appreciate being able to cosy on down in her "den".

If the vet says she does have to be crated 24/7, check if she will have to be on the lead when you let her out for a wee and if you will need to reduce her food. Being stuck in the crate will probably make you feel worse than meg - believe me i know! (just over 2mths to go!). You can give her stuffed kongs, but be sure to take it out of normal food allowance.

Fingers crossed though all will be well !

Fingers and paws crossed! Hope she is a little more settled tonight unsure.gif A pin might be a good thing, when Molly had her second op they put a pin and a screw in to align the bones, the pin is just a safety measure,as i'm sure Meg's will be! Better in the long run, might not seem that way now but after seeing both sets of Xrays, I'm glad I opted for the second op tongue.gif
Yet more nights without the comfort of our own beds laugh.gif As for the crate I would deffo get one,it will put your mind at rest too!
