Just have to share......Most of you will probably know that we have dreadful recall problems with Murphy. A little while ago, I started very slowly starting to whistle train him. For about a month I have been giving 3 pips on the whistle every time I feed him. At the weekend it was a sunny day and he was in the garden chasing his lights. I called him inside (he is usually excellent at this) but he completely blanked me, so I went and got the whistle, and gave 3 pips. The next thing I know he's racing inside and skidded to a stop in his bed (where I make him wait for his food)

I've used it to recall him from the garden a couple of times since, and he's come every time!

It's small progress, but I'm just so chuffed. I'm taking it REALLY slowly and making sure we have it really solid before I progress to a live situation. But I see light at the end of the tunnel!

Moxie comes every time for three pips of whistle, and I was delighted at Feniton that she had perfect recall when there were loads of other dogs about and lots of whistles!
They get to know the sound of "their" whistle.
I use whistle commands when we are out walking on the farm, even when I don't really need her to return. I do it at least twice on a walk off lead. It is a great game to her, as she gets lots of positive feedback.
