I already compete with my cocker cross in agility, and can't wait to start with my puppy Holly but she is only five months so will have to wait a while.

I am interested to see how many springers do agility?

I don't know anyone who does agility with springers!

Is there anyone out there and where are you in the uk? biggrin.gif

there are quite a few Springers competing up here in Scotland, I compete with my 2 working cockers, 1 full height, 1 medium. I know Sue has started competing recently and Lizzy is back in training with Meg, and I am sure there are a few more

Our agility class (used to be mine, but Andy's a lot better than me rolleyes.gif ) is laughingly referred to as the spaniel class, one very slow but very accurate Cocker, two speedy accurate lovely Cockers, one massively fast high jumping Springer who does very well at shows, one very nervous shadow chasing Springer, a few other random dogs and our Charlie!

Did 12 classes with Ollie last year. Only 30 mins each and was a bit disorganised. Mixed abilities in the same sessions.

Started again with Ollie 3weeks ago - different club (with a waiting list, which is a good sign) - 1hour sessions, matched to ability level and well organised.

Planning to take Ben this Autumn.

Noticed that blokes are in the minority.

We've been going to classes since last september. There is a competition that we might be doing in a few weeks and I'm really nervous!

Stupid question time, for an unaffiliated show, do you need to be on the KC Register?

No Kate, at an unafiliated show you don't need to be KC reg, although its dead easy to register on the activity register, i have all the forms here for Meg just a case of doing it

Kofi, now 13 months, has just completed a 10 week beginner course at an agility club .. very well organised with excellent trainers who offer lots of constructive advice. Kofi loves it.. went thru a sticky patch about weeks 6-8 when he thought finding horse poo was a better bet than staying with me but now he is much better and really enthusiastic so I am planning to get some equipment for the garden because he is a very active springer!!!

My Casey loved agility (as far as we got) He never got to learn the weave polls and was just learning to go away from me.

I don't know if any of my boys will go. It isn't easy trying to train three adults from start at the same time. laugh.gif

I did agility last year when we still lived on the west coast. There is one agility club where I live now, but I take her to the obedience. Fipps loved the agility, all this jumping and running laugh.gif

Obi and I do agility, we both love it biggrin.gif
We haven't started competing yet, our first competition will be in February next year, I'm nervous already rolleyes.gif
Our downfall at the moment is that Obi loves the contact equipment, if a Dog walk or Seesaw comes into his line of view, he just HAS to do it, whether that's what I was asking for or not rolleyes.gif
Also Obi's brother Wilbur and sister Penzi do it too, we are known as the spaniel class too laugh.gif
The only other springer I've seen competing in Jersey is Obi's uncle, and he's very good, so there's hope for us yet wink.gif

Jake and Bella love agility but Jake always has to check the ground out before he will focus.
Any tips on how to stop this, silly question really he is a springer.

Jake and Molly both do agility training and have been in competitions for just over a year now.

Jake has been training since he was just over 2 years old - I waited until he had calmed down a bit, he was too much of a free spirit as a puppy! We got Molly when she was 17 months old and started her training shortly afterwards.

Jake really loves it and although he is not as fast as the collies he rarely knocks a pole down. He is getting better at his contacts - took a lot of work. Molly is a true sniffer! She is slower than Jake because the jumps just get in the way of sniffing. Molly is better on the outdoor courses - less smells.

They have done really well so far this year with nearly 50 rosettes between them, including some placings!

We do both the KC events and UKA. At the UKA competitions they are both in the standard height which makes a difference because in the KC ones they have to jump the full height.

Unfortunately we have become so hooked that last week we bought a Motorhome so we can get to more competitions! We do competitions most weekends. When we started we said that we would never ever get so hooked - we have had to eat our words!!

Good luck with your competitions.
