HI ,

I don't know if this is in the right place, please move if it isn't ,

I am just trying to grab ideas on where everyone got theirs from?
Do people tend to look first in rescues or go to private breeders ,
we are hoping to be owned by a springer in the future so thought this would be best place to ask,

thankyou

It really depends what you want, a pup or something a bit older. unsure.gif
I've had both pups from private breeders and older rescue dogs. Also it will depend on the amount of experience you have had with dogs in the past, a puppy is hard work but it just takes common sense to achieve a well behaved pup which you can train and give confidence to oh and this forum is also a great place for lots of advice too wink.gif
There are sometimes pups available from rescue centres, breeding is often dubious though so as regards the future health of your pup well that can't be 100% although a lot of how the pup is brought up can make all the difference with a lot of health problems being avoided. No breeder can guarantee 100% that any pup they breed will be healthy although a good breeder will do their best to make sure any potential inherited problems will be avoided.
A nice older rescue dog would be a great start as you will no doubt end up with more than one once you become familiar with the breed, they are such great fun dogs to own but it's your choice in the end and only you can decide what would be best. Whatever you choose I wish you the best of luck and well done for joining ST as there's so much info on here with so many great members being able to help with anything you need to ask, we've all been there and done it one way or another laugh.gif wink.gif

I got mine from a breeder.
But after having him for only 4months, i have decided i will always have springers, looking forward to my next one in a few years. Hoping for a rescue springer.

They steal your heart!

Both mine are rescues. Previous springers have always come from breeders and have been puppies 8 weeks old.

I am finding rescue springers very rewarding, both need alot of work and patience but I love em both. Its lovely seeing them becoming safe and settled.

Welcome to Springer Ward of the Cyber Asylum! cool.gif

biggrin.gif Both of mine were from rescues. The first was Sam at about 14 months then Millie joined us two and a half years ago aged about 6...... and yes they are totally addictive!

I have never had a puppy ..... so I just drool all over everyone elses poopie piccies wink.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Sam was hardwork to start with he had a few fears and issues, whereas Millie was a dream! However, whatever love you pour in you will get back a thousand fold. wub.gif wub.gif

Whatever you decide is right for you I am sure your perfect pal is out there for you and we all love to hear updates and see photos wink.gif

Welcome!!
All of ours are rescues, and we are lucky enough to have a rescue puppy.... brought to our attention through this site wink.gif
I'd have to be honest & say that rescues come with their own 'quirks' but they are soo rewarding smile.gif

Good Luck

Sonny was a foster pup, at 9 weeks old i was bound to fail biggrin.gif both his parents were sniffer dogs, private security firm, drugs and arms, Sonny has a deviated nose, we think thats why he wasnt wanted, but, im not exagerating much here, when i say he was meant to be, to be honest i think he saved my sanity

Ruby we had from a pup from a breeder and George (our new addition) is a nine month old rescue - both have pros and cons but you just gotta love em

Not sure if my two are rescues or rehomes?! Wots the difference?

I considered a pup – something inside me preferred giving a dog a second chance - I find that harder to do with people!

To some extent you need to treat a rehome like a pup – you have to work out what its been “socialised” too and bear in mind any “known” reasons why its looking for a new home.

I’d recommend exploring “rehomes” with a Springer specific organisation (tho my first came from a generic breed rescue centre). And avoid making a rush / emotive decision – making the right decision for you and the dog is far more important!

PS Claire - I'd be happy to take George off your hands!!!!!!!! smile.gif

My first Springer I had as a pup - he was a present from my old boss.

The three I have now are all rescues - Finn, my Irish Rescue, came from Freya and really his only fault is his recall, iffy at the best of times biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Just ask Freya what these Irish boys are like laugh.gif laugh.gif Jan came from NESSR and has no faults. Tia, well I'm afraid I'm a failed fosterer with her. Fostered her for NESSR and now she is a permanent fixture and fitting laugh.gif

I have been very lucky with my three in that they have not come with very 'baggage' at all.

I'm sure you will find your perfect friend is out there just waiting for you. Good luck with whichever route you decide to take - just remember we need to see piccies when the time comes laugh.gif

We got chloe from a breeder, and have only just got Skye from rescue. As some others have said both have there pro and cons...i remember chloe as a pup and more than once she drove me to thinking she would have to be rehomed, until she reached about 12 months. As for rescue it is really the most rewarding experience, but most dogs will come with some issues. I think wether you take on a rescue or a pup you need lots of patience and time, but you will end up with the most wonderful dog in the world smile.gif

My two were both from breeders but it wasnt until i joined ST that i realised what the situation is for springers in rescue...i guess i was just really naive. I wouldnt change my two for the world though and if i were to get another (not sayin anything else yet wink.gif ) i would defo rescue! smile.gif

Bailey was from a breeder at 7 weeks old, when I joined ST and relised how many springers are looking for new homes we got Bella from Four Paws in wales and she is 6 months so there are young springers needing new homes too.
