no news yet peeps sad.gif .

yeah we play loads of games in the garden, but as soon as we go out the gate he switches into hunt mode, and me and bronte just dont exist. we have been working with the stop whistle, which is coming along nicely, but not upto high distractions yet. also the last few days he has been 'checking' in with me, even though he's been on his line. i suppose thats some kind of breakthrough!!! biggrin.gif

Please do not be too disheartened we have put a lovely black wrought railing by our back door with a gate, so finally I can get rid of the tatty old baby gate and leave the back door open all the time for the dogs. 2 days later (last Friday) I hear a crash and there is Jack walking up the road. Did he jump the gate or squeeze through the bars. This is the first time he has been able to jump higher than the settee for months. And this lump he now has was that due to squeezing through the bars. I would make your garden fence higher if I were you. I do sympathise.

someone told me that their springer is often found 8 feet up sitting on the shed roof, laughing at them...

I think they can be quite determined when something appeals the other side of a fence...

hope he's home soon

Oh my god..you poor thing. Mine jumped a 6 foot fence (I still don't no how) I was working 150 miles away when I got a call from the council to say they had my dogs. I was so embarrassed. Luckily my Mum could pick them up. I will admit I defiantly broke the speed limit on my way back down the M5.

Is he micro chipped ?

I do feel for you over this one, I just wanted to say that by law you are allowed a 7' fence without planning permission but do consider any neighbours and the cheapest way i have found of adding extra height is by using a trellis which can be added with batten to the supports of the lower fencing smile.gif

The other thing is a tether in the garden is fantastic if the dog is being watched, if they are unattended please don't do it in case it gets wrapped around his neck sad.gif .

It sounds like you are making real progress on the stop whistle which is a huge achievement, keep focusing on that and don't let him in the garden until the fencing has been heightened smile.gif .

Can the rescue give you any help/advice with his training, it's always worth asking?

spaceman- 08-06-2008
I spoke/went to 3 gundog trainers about Ollie’s awol episodes.

The advice was consistent – no free running. In Sam’s case, safely containing him in the garden is the first priority (in my view).

I didn’t follow the “no free running advice” – I like walking with my dogs. But, given Sam’s record, I would seriously consider it.

Do you always take your dogs out together?

Do you control the hunt when out on walks?

Daisy_Dawg- 08-06-2008
Does anyone have a contact number for Sue to find out if Sam reappeared yet??? sad.gif huh.gif

Paula- 08-06-2008
It must be really worrying for you at the moment, i remember Sam going missing back in June and you doing everything to find him. At this moment everything probably seems to much sad.gif . Sure Sam's in the best of homes, Don't give up, just keep trying to make things better one step at a time.

Hurry Home Soon Sam

Izzie - sort of where I was aiming at. With two or more "not so perfect" dogs, its very hard. With one dog, they have you're undivided attention - and hopefully vice-versa.

Hope your boy turns up as usual...if anything but tired and all well.
I'm always so sorry for you when this happens and I know I repeat myself, but I can hardly put it in the right words, but he couldn't get a better loving friend than you !!!! There wouldn't be a better home. I'm not saying this to put pressure on you, no way, I just seriously think so smile.gif You do a lot with him and he is so good at everything. He just has it so much in his mind that he can take himself off for a walk, he has no idea how worried it makes you and how sad. I wish I could help you in a practical way. Loads of cyber hugs.

I thought you were John, but wasnt too sure. smile.gif

Have the same probs with Trixie, so have to walk the girls seperately when I can.

Sue dont give up. you have a lot of support and friends on here who are willing to help you as much as possible.

Hurry Home Sam

Fuddles- 08-06-2008
Not got Sue's number anymore, it was in me old sim card. She isn't online so all we can do is pray he's got back home until the morning.

Anyone else got it ?
