Following on from a suggestion - whats in your first aid kit and why???
A few suggestions from my kit smile.gif

Always have vet wrap, colourful bandage that adheres to itself as it wraps, great for wrapping up a cut paw - usually use some duct tape to secure it and keep it waterproof. The original is not cheap but have spotted a cheap version in Poundland.

Liqourice root - if mine get kennel cough I make an infusion of liqourice root by pouring a kettle of boiling water over 2 sticks of root, a tbsp of honey and let it cool overnight, remove roots and replace their drinking water with it.

I am guilty of not having a specific first aid box for Sam - but have added Stypic (sp?) powder to my own kit - in case of slipping with the nail clippers - Sam's has the odd black claw and I am terrified of catching the quick on these.

Never seen the vet bandage anywhere to buy myself so there is a reel of plaster tape for securing normal bandage and an assortment of small socks (childrens and babies) and plastic bags for waterproof walks!

Freya how much is it in poundland, might be worth adding to the shop, we don't have a poundland so depending on price I could do with a roll as its the one thing I dont have.

Thornit after minor ear mite invasion

Arnica

must get some hibiscrub

antiseptic

scissors etc, cant wait to see what it is on Penels list.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
At least thats my stupid comment out of the way, going to take Ruf for a walk now cause I feel very stupid.

Would you mind getting me one please and I'll make a donation as well as postage, thank you.

Toddles off very sheepishly

crazyspaniels- 04-09-2005
Yeah, sorry Selina, I suppose poundstretcher isn't only stuff for a pound so you are excused laugh.gif

We've got:

arnica, vet wrap (bought online at the canine chemist), piriton (for adder bites), hibiscrub, wound powder, colloidal silver, thornit, ear cleaner, a pippet for cleaning out wounds (squirt either salt water solution or colloidal silver with it), some spray which is really for sheep when they have problems with their feet which we use for cleaning out nasty wounds (we seem to have a variety of stuff for that job lol), and some purple spray which is just an antiseptic one. I think that's it but we've probably got other stuff kicking around.

Oh blimey I'm feeling like a rubbish mum now as my first aid kit is non-existent for Olls sad.gif I do have..........

Arnica (bought this week after Ollie's laminate floor skating antics)

Epiotic ear cleaner (that Ollie won't let me within a 5 mile radius of him with)

Hibiscrub (which I got from the vets a couple of weeks back after Ollie's weird face lump incident but have never used)

and that's the sum total of my list........I shall now slink off to the 'unprepared for a springer medical emergency corner' laugh.gif

I will be putting a list together now that I see what everyone else has in there first aid kits wink.gif

crazyspaniels- 04-10-2005
Its only those of us who know what springers can get up to that have such large first aid kits, we have a drawer, jam packed laugh.gif Yours will grow in time smile.gif but don't panic, I reckon you should always have something for a cut, especially cut paws, some lint dressings and bandage so that any bleeding can be stopped, even if you intend on taking him to the vet.
I also carry a small kit in the car with bandages and antiseptic spray just in case smile.gif

Here's my list

Asprin
Tea tree oil

Thornit

Neem oil
Numerous homoeopathic remedies.
Thornit
Aloe Vera gel
Cotton wool pads
Syringe (without needle) to squirt salt water

I'm cheating - copying and pasting this from the lurcher forum where we often talk about first aid - as lurchers are very accident prone !

My car first aid kit is fairly small - I have homeopathic Aconite tablets, for shock, homeopathic Arnica tablets, for bruising - Rescue Remedy for shock again, or Emergency Essence (I find this more effective than RR), gauze, vetwrap, tweezers, scissors blunt ended, saline in a small can to wash wounds out (they sell it for contact lens wearers), antiseptic wipes.... there is a fantastic spray you can buy in Boots and most chemists called "First Aid Spray" its made from Calendula and Hypericum mother tinctures - basically brilliant for spraying on *clean* wounds - calendula heals cuts and hypericum helps with the pain.
My home first aid kit is massive ph34r.gif - I have about a hundred different homeopathic remedies - colloidal silver, Hibiscrub, Slippery Elm powder for upset tummies, also Diaransyl, Fuciderm, Neem, Tea tree, - I can't even begin to list the whole lot I'd be here all night - put it this way it takes up three shelves and two small boxes. biggrin.gif
