Took Jed out this morning up to Fort, on way home a black collie cross came out of no where and headed for Jed. He was obviously nervous as he tried to hide behind my legs. how ever dog came running up to Jed teeth snarling and bowled him over on his side making a yelping noise. I started shouting and waving my arms at other dog.
Maybe not so wise now as he could have gone for me, but it was just instinct. I thought originally that the dog had just bowled him over and he yelped due to shock. Collie just ran straight off in another direction. I looked around for about 5 mins......no surprise their was not an owner in sight. I checked Jed over and he has go a nasty puncture wound on his side just over an inch long but with a awful slice along the skin. You can also see where the dogs teeth has slid along the skin before entering. I just burst into tears i think through shock and cried all the way home. Now the tears have subsided i feel so angry. why do people not keep their dogs in sight at all times. Also why does it have to happen to Jed again. he is such a big softy and never even retaliated. Even though i wouldnt have blamed him if he had. Since been to vets and he has now three stitches in his side. Not even a whimper at the vets, and tail still wagging. Is it worth reporting this to local dog warden as i have no idea whos dog this is and have never seen before. sad.gif

before you do another thing today, write it down, details of the dog, colouring etc. Then contact the dog warden as soon as you can, they may have had other issues with this dog too.

Hope he's ok.

oh poor jed! hope he's feeling better soon. sending lots of hugs to him and you. yeah i would definately report to the local dog warden, cos somebody else might have too, and hopefully they'll follow it up.

Poor Jed and Poor You! I know how it feels to watch your dog be attacked when the owner does nothing...or in your case is nowhere to be seen! Irresponsible dog owners....grrr, don't get me started!!!

report it smile.gif

Okay have rang dog warden, given details of where when, description of dog. Unfortunately they said there was not alot they could do, but i had guessed that anyway. But at least i have reported it and if they have any further complaints they can follow it through. Thanks guys for the support much appreciated. It makes me not wanna take Jed up there again but he loves all the bushes and rabbits and all the open space. so will have to brave it when he has healed. More to the point when i feel brave enough sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Poor Jed, this sort of thing makes me mad, Merlin was 'done' by an alsation a couple of months back, a rescue dog that really should not have been off the lead but hey ho, it was. Hugs to you both and I hope it doesnt have too much of a detrimental effect on Jed xxxx

Heres hoping Jed heals quickly and hes not to sore and not forgetting hugs for you to.
I bet Jed gets over it quicker than you do.
Definately did the right thing reporting it.

After Elly got attacked at the weekend ive since heard about a King Charles Spaniel that got killed by 3 dogs. The dogs were on leads but 1 managed to slip its collar and the other 2 pulled away from the owner, i dont know what breed they were.
Its just awful and so heartbreaking to hear about these things and theres far to much of it going on.

Thats 3 incidents in just a month or so where i live and thats the ones we know about!

Oh I really do feel for you... it's awful when your dog gets attacked, and esp under such circumstances as no owner in sight mad.gif

but please don't let this incident spoil your pleasure or confidence in going for walks....

The boys and I were set upon by some stray dogs a few months ago as we were just leaving my street (when I moved it was hard to adjust anyways - my old house had fields literally on my doorstep, now I live in a built up cul-de-sac and can only access fields by walking through the close and crossing a busy main road)... there are a lot of stray dogs and also irresponsible owners close by to me and the whole scenario has meant that at the moment I don't take them for walks locally - they get put in the car and driven to the local parks/woodlands... I still enjoy our walks and so do the boys, but the other night I got really panicked as I thought there was a black dog ahead of us with no owner/lead on (turned out to be a tree stump rolleyes.gif laugh.gif but still... I didn't realise how much it would shake me up just expecting another attack...).... I miss being confident enough to walk the dogs again out the front door and amongst the neighbourhood but am not quite there yet, I kinda panic cos both my hands are tied up with a lead in each hand so no free one to batter off an attacking dog - not that i guess that's the best thing to do unsure.gif ...

I hope if you are upto it and when he heals, that you both can resume normal activity and this dogs irresponsible owner doesn't knock your confidence too much, and good for you for reporting it to the dog warden... and sending huge ((get well soon)) thoughts for Jed...

Loads of healing thoughts for Jed. It is horrid when your confidence has such a knock. Angel was attacked by a dog with a muzzle, though the dog didn't physically hurt her (though not for the want of trying), it wouldn't let Angel right herself and kept knocking her back down. The owner was at the bottom of the hill and refused to call hs dog back, i think his words were "well he has a muzzle on".

Give it a little time before you revisit, then try and get someone to go with you.

Loads of positive thoughts for you x

Awww hugs for Jed, Dog owners that just dont care are a regular topic in our house, we had a grey hound try to bully Poppy by snapping at her two days ago and she was so scared and kept trying to jump up my leg, you just dont know what to do for the best? When the owner did appear he grabbed the dog and punched it in the head blink.gif I really dont know what was worse the shock of him hitting the dog or the dog being aggessive to Pop's. sad.gif
Hope Jed is all good again soon and that the other dog doesnt attack anyone again.
