Poor old Jerry is gradually falling to bits and his hips now mean that he cannot get in to the car without assistance.

My back can't take it - and he hates it!

Needs to be reasonably lightweight, folding & take 22Kgs in weight

Ta!

Have you tried ebay?

As I found to my experience a lot of dog ramps are quite heavy, I have one here you are welcome to borrow indefinitely if you know of anyone travelling up towards you that can fit it in there car.

I have two, one very sturdy rigid plastic the top slides over the bottom half, with carpet covering it for grip, very heavy but very robust, I also have a less sturdy one that folds in half made of wood with grooves in for grip.

I have to say with the oldies that come through here they are invaluable as like you trying to lift a dog in and out the car leaves me in agony. You are welcome to borrow either if you can get it up to you.

Failing that if you can make something up for the time being I am coming to Kent in April and would be happy to meet up with you then smile.gif

What about this one from Argos, or is it too heavy ?

Surrey pet supplies have a variety of ramps which are quite reasonable:

Yes please!!

Not urgently required as he only goes in the car once a week at the moment - to go to his swimming class laugh.gif Interestingly, he can jump in without a problem immediately after his hydrotherapy, so I guess it must help a bit

Thanks for all the advice guys - I would love to see you in April anyway Selina - let me know what you are up to and we can try to sort somethign out smile.gif

have you tried advertising on freecycle - there seems to be all manor of things on there.

I tried it today - I don't have any point of comparison, never having seen any other dog ramps but I'm quite happy with it. It isn't too heavy - well not as heavy as lifting 20kg of dog in and out of a car! - and folds down reasonably, though it is difficult to fit in the boot with two dogs in there already, but I think that would apply to all ramps and depends on the size of the car of course. Both dogs went up it with the lure of sausage though they were a bit tentative. My car has a hatchback style boot and is quite high but the ramp was ok for it as it extends quite a bit.

It has the drawbacks that I think all ramps will have in that it is a bit of a palava and if someone parks close behind you as someone did today to me that is really annoying as there isn't room for the ramp!

Bilbo can actually often jump in the car after his walk but not before, but it does mean that post walk I can also save getting all muddy if he did need help to get in - in addition to saving my back which is mainly why I bought it.

The size and transportation of them is also a big factor, both of mine quite bulky on the back seat, but I sw one in pets at home today that folds into a tiny little cube and was very light.

Hmmm - as you know, the popemobile is not known for being spacious!!

I may pop in to Pets at Home on the way home from work tomorrow smile.gif

The Argos one does fold down quite small - my car is a Polo estate and I can fit two dogs and the ramp in it quite easily but need something to stop the ramp falling onto them if I put it in with them, so I tend to put it on the back footwell pending working something out. Maybe the pets at home one is smaller though.

Got one off Ebay!!

It is the telescopic one - was quite expensive but still cheaper than buyign a new one - drivign over to pick it up next weekend!

Well Done - of course you will need to provide photos of Jerry using it smile.gif

And Jen - be careful!! wink.gif
