Seems to have been a lot of sad poems here recently, so hope this will give you all a laugh.

WALKIES!
(is this your springer?)

You may think I am fast asleep, but all you need to do
Is move towards where my lead is kept and I'm right there behind you.
All waggy tail and pleading eyes, I jump from paw to paw
''Oh come on mum, get ready NOW!'' as I dash towards the door
The usual fight to clip on lead as I bounce around her legs
The door is opened, and we're OUT at full speed down the steps.
Around the corner, down the road - this path leads to the wood!
Mum's arms must be longer now, 'cos I am pulling good!
At last we're through the kissing gate, no cars allowed in here
So mum knows that it's safe to run, the lead is off, HURRAH!
Down goes my nose and I am off, in typical springer habit
Through grass and bramble, bush and twigs, I search for bird and rabbit
So many real exciting smells, which one do I follow?
This one right; no, to the left, - up hill or down in hollow?
I run ahead of mum, then back - make sure she's still in sight
Then off again around the trees, running with all my might
I think around the very next bend if I remember so
Is my favourite part of all my walk - the stream in full wet flow!
I jump straight in and run upstream, raising quite a spray
My mouth wide open to catch the drops of water as I play
Mum watches me from the little bridge that marks our halfway spot
Too soon she calls me to go home, so to the bank I trot
We go back through the wooded path at a slightly slower pace
I'm a bit tired now, but not enough to prevent a naughty phase
For as we get towards the gate, temptation is too strong
I've spotted a great big patch of mud, and though I know it's wrong
I really must go down that way and dip my paws in goo
But it's much deeper than I thought, my bellys gone in too!
I come out dripping mud and gunk, and bound back to mum's side
She shakes her head, clips on the lead and comments with a sigh;
''Why can't you do that at the start, and clean off in the river?''
I just look cute, then laugh at her, my tail and tongue aquiver
We set off back along the road, and get some funny looks
From other people passing by who can't believe the muck
But when we get back home again, mum has the final laugh
I get a hose down in the yard with the icy outside tap! laugh.gif laugh.gif
