This place has some amazing scenery and also nearby is a place called dunsop bridge which is exsactly at the middle of the whole of great britain. It just above clitheroe in lancashire. You can drive all the way through it until you reach lancaster or carry on to morcambe for fish and chips! I tend to stop at the main car parking spot with the food van nearby....when me dad came up here to visit we done 10 miles in one day , i was shattered but god was it worth it! Theres water , mud and plenty of different things to keep ya springies entertained.

I grew up near Lancaster and only moved from the area in 2003. We used to go for drives up to the trough. There is of course an added attraction at Dunsop Bridge at the moment - the eagle owls!

I live in Lancaster and our walks often include going up the trough or along the river Lune in lancaster .... or even down to the beach at Morecambe, Having lived here all my life you kind of take it for granted but as you get older you notice just what an amazing area it is.

Ok thats my promotion of Lancaster and surrounding area over for today laugh.gif

I moved up here in 2005 and when i first when to the trough i was amazed....its stunning. I didnt go any where near those eagle owls though ...(cause i went today, before the freakin car broke down) apparently people have been swooped down on ...good job they have now closed the walk way biggrin.gif

I wouldn't mind one swooping down on me, save a couple of hen harriers maybe!

ellie&georgiesmum- 08-21-2007
Yeah thats so awful about the hen harriers but i suppose its all in the name of nature unsure.gif

We drive through it regular but wondered about livestock and off lead walks. Any one got a route ?

Another fave we did the other week is Nicky Nook, we did the river walk, all off lead and springy heaven biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hiya fudds...my two aint perfect..which you will prob see at dalby laugh.gif But if you stop in the main car park bit and walk down through the trees and carry on up the path you can go and see some old castle remains . There are a few sheep on the route but most booger off when they see you. I feel confident in letting my nutters off on that route after you have got past the water treatment place.

Hope its of some help to you

Well, from February, we will be living there biggrin.gif We're off down there on Thursday to look at the house they have found for us, which be all accounts, is fantastic! It's a few miles out of Abbeystead.

I used to walk Nikky Nook quite a lot when I was down there, lovely little valley but lots of pheasants if I remember right.

Ooo H, you lucky thing biggrin.gif Now you will recognise me when I walk up your garden path wink.gif biggrin.gif

Re Nicky Nook, we didn't see a single pheasant ohmy.gif Normally at this time of year, you look down the valley and its teaming with them. We heard one in the distance and that was it ! ohmy.gif

How far are you from that area? or is that near where the caravan is?

Helen

Fuddles- 10-09-2007
Its near the caravan, the van is in a little place called Pilling.

Helen- 10-09-2007
I know Pilling. We'll have to organise something next year when I move and when you are there.
