Hi all, Poppy is such a clever little thing and has a great recall, sit and lie down, but Im unsure about how to go about training her to stop with the wistle ect. Ive also been drawing lines (for the scent) in the garden with meat so she can find the hidden treats and would like to try and stop her from jumping up everyone she meets and pulling on the lead rolleyes.gif .
She is only 14 weeks so know she shouldnt be doing all these things already and we will be taking her to training once she is 18 weeks, but in the mean time I am wondering if anyone knows of any good books sites where I could get some ideas on how to go about teaching her new things or ideas for games to play so that she is still geting a mental workout, without doing the same things over and over again.
I just dont want her to get bored while we wait for the classes as she is picking things up so easily or go about teaching her in the wrong way, as I already think that living in this mad house she is learning some bad habits lol!! I will pop a picture on later to show you some LMAO!!

Why wait until she's 18 weeks? Get her to some good puppy socialisation classes and you can start working on the basics with some distractions wink.gif

We were hoping to go to puppy classes but the only one around here is on a tues night and its my daughters rainbows at the same time, which wouldnt be a problem if they were not held at either side of the town and I have no car laugh.gif So we are having to wait until the beginners class on a sunday but she can not attend until she is 18 weeks rolleyes.gif

Jumping up at people is easy - if she knows a 'sit' command then use it - get her to 'sit' before anyone makes a fuss of her or even acknowledges her. Be consistent and this will become her 'default' way of greeting anyone.

Pulling on the lead is a little trickier. But if you reward her when she isn't pulling, then not pulling becomes more valuable to her than pulling........ It will mean lots of small treats (or use her daily food ration for training) in the early stages, but once she is staying beside you for more than 2 steps, you can start to spread out the gaps between the treats.
