This is my third week on BARF and Oliver is loving it. I am however concerned that when i give him meaty bone or belly pork or anything that comes in a large peice he runs out to the garden with it.
This was ok when the weather was nice but what shoudl i do now its raining and during the winter.
I kept him in today to eat and he literally gulped it down in one, whereas in the garden he takes more time to crunch and chew.
Chopped up food he will eat in his bowl indoors no problem.
My OH ws thinking of builing a little shelter where he can go to take his bones but should i keep trying to keep him in to eat.
Daisy does this too - she likes to throw it round the grass, do a sort of dance around it, then roll on it before eating it!
In the wet weather or winter I spread a beach towel out on the floor in front of the patio doors and let her have that as her 'outdoors' - works fine for us.
When you feed him indoors and he's gulping it down are you standing near him? And when he takes it outdoors and takes his time, are you away from him?
He's possibly just wanting to eat in peace where no-one can take it away. If you can walk away from him indoors too, he might slow down.

Dont know why this is posted twice, having a bit of trouble with site today!
Mine eat in or out whatever the weather - it is down to them.
TBH Freddy will sometimes sleep outside even in winter, I figure as he has a choice I don't need to worry.
We've just started BARF and I let them eat either in the kitchen or outside, if they are happy to eat in the rain I let them. Although they both spend loads of time out in the garden whatever the weather anyway - we have a dog flap and they use it lots.
Hendrix eats outside almost all the time, mostly because my son wont stop getting into his food... which is not a good thing for a 9 month old baby to do on a raw food diet. If its wet or snowy out I have my frount entry way, it has a door and floors that can be washed after. If he has to eat inside I just lock him in there and let him go to town and check on him every 10 mins or so untill hes done. I don't think there is anything wrong with letting him eat outside unless its VERY hot and here in Alberta, Canada it can sometimes to get 30o C which will make the meat turn faster. Other wise there shouldn't be any reason to worry. As for watching and not watchiing... when I first got hendrix I had to sit by him with my back turned, it was the only way he would eat. Now I make him sit, I put the food down, he has to stay sitting for about 10 seconds and then I say "OK"... and walk away... he'll eat everything and usually flip his bowl. I hope this gives you some insight.
