I have been feeding Oliver RAW for nearly two weeks now and wonder if i should be giving him extra supplements like vitamins or vegatables. He has sardines once or twice a week but the rest is just meaty bones, meat, offal and an egg occassionally. He loves this diet but he does seem a little lean at the moment. He is 7 months and i feed him 600gms a day. Should i increase this to get some weight on.
Does anyone feed just as above and how are your dogs health??

Sandy, yes you did and i have been following these (apart from rabbit). Its just that some people have said he isnt getting the vitamins from vegetables he needs. He is dong well on this and is no where near as hyper as he was, but i think i need to increase his intake a bit.
As he ws sick on offal last week i spread this weeks offal out throughout the course of the day (yesterday) and he ws fine with it.
If you say he's fine on this then i'll feel confident without the veg!

Well all my dogs are fine on it but if you want to add veggies then go for raw carrots and brocolli, place in a liquidiser/blender/juicer whatever you have, add a couple of spoons of water, this helps blend things up a bit and give it to him. It ain't gonna kill him and if it makes you feel better then where's the harm wink.gif Up his amounts by 100 grams a day and see how he goes on 700, so other than your paranoia he's doing okay though, yes? wink.gif laugh.gif

Sandra, allthough I do feed some fruit and vegetables and grain, I don't do so for the vitamins! 100g of ox liver and 100g of ox heart contain many more vitamins than do 200g of any vegetable I can think of. The only vitamin a dog would not get that way is vitamin C, and a healthy dog doesn't need that, because he can make it himself.

There are various reasons for feeding some plant material, but supplying the dog with vitamins is not one of them as long as you feed liver and heart. But I have noticed that many barfers seem to believe in this myth. cool.gif
