HI all

Just after a bit of advice. We're really happy with Ghillie ( 8mths now) in most aspects, however there is one thing that I really need to nip in the bud.

When we are out anywhere he wants to be doing something all the time. For example, this weekend at Chatsworth show we went to watch the gun dogs in action. He went beserk whining and yipping as he wanted to be doing what they were doing.
Also, if we are sat outside the pub ( this happens quite a lot.. blink.gif ) he starts to whine and yip again.
We took him to a gun dog training day and again when it wasn't his turn he started the same actions.

I know he's only young but Id like some ideas on how to stop this.

For info, when he was younger and whined to be with us we didn't give in to him so I don't think its a case of him being used to the attention...

Will keep an eye on this thread wink.gif ...........most of you who have met Harry know he barks when he wants to 'be doing something'. So we arrive at a walk, hang around for everyone and he barks non stop. the minute you set off or let him off he stops.

Honestly i would just get up and walk away from them....turn your back..anything that means if they bark you are going to remove yourself from them.....

If they want you to play ball and yip yip yip i would get up and walk away do something else for a second - as soon as they start making noise not after 5mins of barking or it wont be effective.

Other than that i dont really know, oh yh and reward when they are quietly laying down using a wue word such as hush or something similar.

Agree with Ellie. Sage used to get worked up as a young dog when waiting her turn at group gundog training. As a result we used to leave her in the car until it was her turn. As she's grown older we've been able to increase her exposure and she is now happy to wait without any fuss.

interesting thread

Ruby has never done this till this weekend when she was on the lead alot of the time with alot of people milling around and she could see Darren and the girls through the woods and she did alot of yapping and yipping

think it was just excitment cause i was outside the pup the other day on my way back from a walk and i ended up stopping for a drink and sat outside and she just lay down and there were lots of kids and dogs about blink.gif

I'd teach a 'settle' command - means just chill, nowt happening here just now etc. Start off in low stimulation environments and work up......
