wink.gif wow, how annoying not having the internet at home

Thanks everyone,w ell as you now know it is Badger we had taken under our wing!! He is a smashing little guy, so friendly, and trusting, despite the confusions he must be feeling.

He is a little naughty wink.gif think I would call it selective hearing, but he is obviously intelligent so with a little trainign will be fantastic. I have had him off lead 50% of the time and his recall is patchy tongue.gif but he like to chase sally around so where she goes he tends to be . Although that's not always a good thing as sally lieks to chase scents everywhere and into bushes, gets covered in Burrs and filthy dirty laugh.gif

The main thing to me is that he and the girls get on. yoyo is a little wary, sitting on the sofa eyeing him. She doesn't try to stop him coming on the sofa, and even let him rest his head on her back last night, but she sort of doesn't look too "grinny" about it laugh.gif but it is a major step up for her to even allow him on sofa, when Jasper arrived it was 2 weeks before she would allow him, and last week when Katie brought Todd and Murphy over Yoyo was very growly with them. So it's good. and Sally will always be happy provided she gets the same attention from her Dad she always did, so she waddles over to him to be picked up onto his knee, and is quite happy. her and badger had two plays on saturday in the garden that culminated in Badger rolling over on his back and showing her his belly, so she was quite satisfied. He licked her mouth on sat night and she didn't even flinched (maybe she fancies him as a bit of a toyboy laugh.gif ) So if my girls are happy, Badger is happy, then I am happy. oh, sorry, and if Michael is happy rolleyes.gif

We need to work on his lead training (my arm is almost out my socket!) and recall (selective hearing as I said) and his little nighttime adventures wink.gif but he is a super smashing dog who I think will settle in quite nicely. Have never had a dog his age before - the youngest I have ever owned is 6, so it's a new challenge for all of us.

Think it's nice for sally to have someone to play with too...so watch this space, I'll keep you all informed. In the meantime, any suggestions for nighttime crying or pulling on lead would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

nighttime crying -

firstly make sure you have ruled out anything that needs attention... ie- he's been to the toilet, had a walk, not hungry etc -

then (and this is the hard bit) put him in his bed and tell him very firmly that it is night time and he must stay - then ignore the crying/whinging etc and with a bit of luck, once he gets into the routine and trusts that you will be there to give him his breakfast, he will go to bed a happy chappy. If you have to go into him (worried about neighbours etc0 then, no eye contact, no speaking - plonk him back in his bed - tell him stay and shut the door!

Good luck!
