I wasn't sure where best to post this, but here seemed as good a place as any.
I was chatting with a friend who was telling me about a neighbours dog (springer x lab) that had been a bit under the weather. On looking at it, they could see it had some lumps in its tummy (she's only a youngster). She was taken to the vet and had 40 egg sized stones removed from her stomach! Apparently, they and their kids had always thrown stones for her, as they thought it was quite funny the way that she liked to chase them! Now the poor dog has to be muzzled even in their garden, just to stop her from picking up more stones (which apparently she still was!)
I just thought I would share this as a very good reason why it's best not to encourage them to chase stones!
If you want to hear a very good reason why not to throw sticks, then I have a story about that as well.
Best not to encourage them to retreive golf balls either!! - Poor Oscar!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotlan...ast/7599899.stm any stories on golf balls as Ollie is obessed with them!
ooops just read johnybobs
Sounds like the golf balls was a similar thing - still ouch!
The stick story doesn't have a happy ending, so be warned.
A friend was walking through a park that she often walked through. She bumped in to a chap who she had met a couple of times before. She noticed that he didn't have his dog with him, and on enquiring he explained why. He had been out walking as normal, throwing a stick. On one throw the stick bounced on the ground, and went straight up through the dogs jugular vein. Now, I never through stones before I heard this, but this has just re-inforced why not.
