Can anyone give me any advice about a Springer's season?

I thought B was starting hers about a month ago, her vulva seemed a bit swolen, but false alarm. However, now she is definately in season, no doubting the licking, swelling, and drops of blood! dry.gif

So, how long is it likely to last, and, before I end up with some Sprollies (very handsom boy licking her bits earlier!!) any advice on avoiding temptation and saving the carpet?

Thanks hun, actually, she is doing quite well, only some drips when she wakes up, and when she springs! Found a few drops on the carpet, and in the utility is worse. Have thrown a pet blanky over the sofa (the 2 seater she used). Other than that she pretty much keeps it under control. Poor lamb, sure she is wondering what is going on!

Three weeks is about the average duration, and after the first few days you should get serious about keeping her away from intact males. That includes no leaving her in the garden unsupervised!

I have found most (but not all! mad.gif ) owners of intact dogs very considerate when I holler at them that I have a hot lady on the lead. But just in case I take a spare lead with me.... dry.gif

Poor Bailey... while out on our walk, we saw a lady we often meet who walks with half a dozen assorted dogs - she had one on a long line, and was waving and shouting to us "In season.. in season" and was prepared to turn and run wink.gif Happily I could shout back.. "He's been done!" biggrin.gif

I hope it doesn't last too long Kate...

Mum is worried, she will walk them Monday and Tuesday, and I've told her to steer clear of all dogs, and if one comes along, to shout that Bailey is in season and ask if the dog has been done. Am really hoping most owners will be considerate, but if not, Mum will have to turn tail! So far, the two males we have met have had very nice owners!

rolleyes.gif Will be glad when she's been spayed, should be about Christmas I reckon! The are doing a new keyhole thing, much quicker recovery!

Just read this thread! Are there any other symptoms that you have noticed...apart from the obvious ohmy.gif Is she ok in herself, or is she like us and gets a bit moody Grrr...Will keep an eye on this topic for obvious reasons, having one of each!!!Would be interested to know more about this keyhole surgery if you have any? Good luck to you (and your Mum)

All I know about the keyhole surgery is they only make 3 small incisions, rather than cutting her open, which makes recovery time much much quicker, and no stitches, the receptionist had her's spayed that way and said the dog jumped into the back of the car after, rather than having to be lifted.

It's more expensive, but I think it will be worth it.

Thank doG she's started her season now, we are going away in 3 weeks! Was not looking forward to having a bitch in season in a rented cottage with all those beach walks!

She seems to have no other symptoms, apart from farting like a trouper!!
