I did another alpine walk with Rhian today. Mostly because we are enjoying some gorgeous late summer days, but also because exercise and distraction are good for a phantom-prone bitch....

We went to the Lauterbrunnen valley (think Sherlock Holmes and James Bond tongue.gif ). I've just looked through today's pics and can't resist posting a few first impressions! rolleyes.gif Most pics will need a bit of fiddling with, as the lighting was very difficult with stark contrasts - these are completely virginal.

Maybe because the site is so famous and overrun with tourists, I've never been walking there before, but I'll be back.

A view of what's to be seen at the back (or is it the head?) of the valley:

Rhian thinks she has a perfect right to sit or stand upon the benches!

Why would any sane human being puff up 1100m + on a walk that is supposed to be enjoyable? One reason only: to provide your Springer with this! I must be utterly mad?

Once I'll feel able to do the editing, I'll post a full report of the walk in the Abroad section. Right now, the only thing I can handle before bed is a VERY LARGE beer - any brand will do as long as it is wet and cool!

I went to my limits today - Rhian is so much fitter than I am! But even she is snoring blissfully right now..... smile.gif

Oh you have brought back some memories!!

When I left school my parents asked me to choose where I would like my summer holiday and bizarrly I choose Switzerland - I think they thought I would chose a beach hol wink.gif .

We did a two-centre holiday fly/rail staying in Weggis and Wengen. Although Lake Lucerne was lovely my favourite time on the holiday was walking in Lauterbrunnen - some fab views and despite the tourists it was easy to feel peace and serenity. Another abiding memory is losing my breath almost literally at the Trummelbach falls http://graphics.stanford.edu/~lucasp/pictu...nd/trummelbach/ which is a place that truly impresses with the power of water.

Yes the Trümmelbach falls - can you believe I've never yet managed to see them despite the fact they're only 1 h drive away?!

I've had to give them a miss again today as I was completely knackered - only reached the car walking on my gums, as we say here.... But I'll take them in on a less strenuous day! I'll leave Rhian in the car though (there's a shaded car park). Sorriso's owner took him in but said she wouldn't recommend it - the noise is far too much for a dog.

I got so many new ideas today - the valley is spectacular even if the countless waterfalls are no longer in full force at this time of the year!

Can't wait to see some more pics! Susanna, when can we all come on holiday?!?

Sir Freddy- 08-29-2008
Susanna - they are definitely worth a visit but I would def not take a dog, the noise and the amount of moisture in the air is almost distressing as it catches your breath.

I also remember a fab cafe somewhere in the bottom of the valley that served a mean Coupe. Apple Ice Cream with lashings of fresh cream and some Apple Liqueur doused over it - refreshing and indulgent laugh.gif .
