I have never taken Angel to a professional groomers and she has never been clipped she is 4yrs - is it ever too late to get them used to it?

I keep toying with the idea of having her hair cut, i know it sounds silly but do you ask for a specific style blink.gif Or do i just ask for a cut?

Thanks

Sam

Hmm a summer coat - that sounds very stylish!

No highlights ? You ain't seen Bam lately biggrin.gif

I tried to fit the cap on her head but she didn't look very impressed!

I pull out her "dead" red hair. Like i say i don't know much (well anything at all to be honest!) about proper grooming/clipping, so out of curiosity why don't you like clipping?

Just not keen on the short back and sides look, they look like a different breed when they are clipped short ph34r.gif

I like the long a sleeky Springy, yes it takes some keeping on top of but I groom regular, to keep an eye on injurys and at the moment grass seed.

I did clip years ago and both went fluffy rolleyes.gif

Just my humble opinion of course but am sticking with it wink.gif

Oh i didn't know clipping made them fluffy - long and sleek she stays!

thanks fuddles!

I trim her paws, and i have done her bum curtains a couple of times (my daughter said i should be charged with criminal damage!)

is "to clip or not to clip" a potential can of worms??? laugh.gif

Angel fluffed up once but just on one side blink.gif she looked very odd to say the least, it turned out to be an incomplete moult and soon sorted it with some gentle pulling!

If they do fluff up after being clipped does it ever go back to normal?

What you have to be careful for re handstripping, when a dog is neutered, it is a def no no, the coat can be painful to strip out, and not good for the dog, speak to your groomer, and ask her advise she will be able to tell you the kind of coat your dog has and the best way to have it trimed. I would never handstrip a neutered dog in any circumstances
Mason has been clipped for a few years no and never goes fluffy

Fuddles- 06-18-2008
Mary when do you have any piccies of Mason just clipped ?

The clipping I'm no keen on is the really shorn look.

Oh Angel you can try the Furminator too, for both neutured and un neutered wink.gif

Mary when you say neutered dog does that also include spayed girlies? (sorry for such a daft question Its just i don't know if its a -*test*-('")osterone thing!)

Can you give me any ideas on what i should be looking for in a groomer and the sort of questions i should ask before i let her loose on angel?

Fuddles I have a furminator, its amazing it really has reduced the amount of time i have to spend hoovering! laugh.gif

Jasper has always been clipped since he was about 8 months,we didn't really know there were any options to begin with but now we like him being clipped.
He has very thick quite course fur that hardly moults and before he was clipped it was very fluffy.
It is more practical for us and he looks very smart when he has just been clipped, it isn't as harsh as it sounds the only part of him that is actually clipped is his back head and neck a bit, his stump hair is cut of which looks much better but he has all his feathers on his front and back legs and long hair on his chest and belly but there all just made tidy and he still has beautiful long ears, and it is so nice to have all the hair out of his pads.
Ruby on the other hand has longer very silky fur which has never been clipped because the groomer said she didn't need it she just has a bath and just her feet feathers and stump are tidied up.
I would like to know about stripping to because this might suit ruby more she is spayed and would it be painful to her as it is for a neutered dog.

I feel the same though about harsh clipping when all there ear hair and feathers are shaved of i really think it takes there character away.
I don't know if this is any help or not. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Okay I have to put my input well in, I've been thinking over the last week about getting Hendrix clipped. Here in Edmonton we have some really hot summers. last year we were over 30oC going at a week of this. BUT I'm to to fond of the short ears.. sorry I personally think it makes the dog look like other breeds not out beautiful ESS But Hendrix has big curly rings of hair all along his back. and I think would look very smart clipped... But being scared of his own shadow some days I don't know if he can handle it... but I guess thats what the pros are for eh?

I think if you think for the summer she would be to hot, then trim her... OR if you just can stand the cruffy look (like my poor Hendrix) then I'd say go talk to a few groomers and see what they say. But Heck thats just me.
