Was in a bit of bad way when we took him on, underweight, flea ridden & mites in his ears.....he is now well loved, played with, putting weight on steadily and a great dog to have around apart from his nipping which any advise would be great, I know pups nip but it is pretty constant which deters my daughter from taking to him.

Hi, Bennie is gorgeous

Ours is 22 weeks now, we also had a problem with nipping which affected our 6 yearold the most. If the nipping got too much he got put in his cage for some time out and either that has worked or he has grown out of it, because it only happens now if he gets really excited

Another tip that i heard in puppy class this week is to put one finger in their mouth and press lightly on the lower part of their jaw just behind teeth, this is supposed to deter biting but how it stops your finger getting bitten i have no idea rolleyes.gif

Hi and welcome,

Bennie is the same age as my Vinnie. Vinnie does still nip, and it is usually when he is tired. As with Alfie, if he gets a bit over excited with the nipping then he gets some time out in his cage (and he usually falls asleep - proving the point that he was over tired!)

I don't have kids, but my nieces are coming to stay next weekend, so I will be keeping a close eye on him. The rules will be clear - if he starts nipping then they walk away. If he is in his cage, that is his space and they must leave him alone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for such a warm welcome.

We are trying not to use a cage as his previous owners had him caged near 24/7 in the back garden and we really want him to feel part of the family, he does however have his own area for his bed and this is where he is sent when he is a naughty boy.

We have 4 children (10, 7, 5 & 3) it is the 7 year old who is scared of him for some unknown reason?????

I will watch his nipping to try to distinguish between pay/puppy nip or if there is any aggression.

Thanks again and I hope to post more items here whether to help me or others.

Thanks everybody & bye for now

Hi, Kerry,

How adorable is Bennie***I have littermates of 19wks, one nips , the other doesn't! I think with mine its attention seeking as to who gets there first! I make them both SIT...and won't stroke them until they have calmed down, or whoever gives in first, usually me laugh.gif
