Hi all smile.gif
Sandy was kind enough to send me her very helpful raw feeding guides, and I can see from reading them that Obi isn't really getting the variety he probably needs.
He has chicken quarters, lamb breasts (bone in), eggs with shell, fish in oil, liver, kidneys, hearts and the odd bit of live yoghurt.
The problem is that he's really fussy, I bought him a rabbit (for £9 ohmy.gif ) and he wouldn't touch it, even when it was presented at several meal times, the same happened with a pheasant dry.gif
So is just the chicken and lamb ok, considering that he often just has chicken for breakfast and lamb for dinner several days a week?
Any comments or advice on getting him to eat other things much appreciated biggrin.gif
Thanks!

You could add pork as another variety, I give pork ribs for example. The other thing I feed is (green) tripe, I buy that from PAH at the moment.

Thanks Bagpipe, I'd forgotten about pork as last time he had some he had the squits! It was a pork hock though so very fatty.
When you say pork ribs, do you mean like spare ribs? (Sorry I've been a veggie for years so all this meat buying is quite new to me laugh.gif )

Yes I mean spare ribs and pork belly slices is a favourite of Fipps as well. Or you can get some diced turkey for another variety.

Green tripe is probably on top of Rhians list of great food - wish it weren't so smelly. blink.gif At least it disappears extremely fast, and no leftovers! laugh.gif

£9 for a rabbit ohmy.gif
Didn't realize how much they cost to buy.
I think a fresh killed rabbit would be more interesting to him than one that has been dead for a few days. My two eat the whole prey jacket and all. I know this is not always possible and I don't think that he would be eating a bad diet without this good if you can get it but if not there are plenty of other raw meats to feed him.

Mine love Belly pork with bone in.

I also feed lamb necks . I buy a pigs head each week from my butcher for £1.00 this has the pigs ears which they love and loads of meat on it. this will feed them for 2 days.
Also Ox tail this can be expensive if you buy it at the supermarket. I buy mine from my butcher . I pay £1.50 for the whole ox tail he cuts it up for me and I take him a bag of toffees now and again. lol Get to know your local Butcher lol . I buy all of our meat from my local butcher sometimes he throws food in with my order for my dogs.
I am valuable to him he is valuable to me .
Tripe also from PAH I feed my two their tripe frozen so it doesn't smell at all.
They won't eat it when its thawed (fussy girls) probably just what they have got used too.
His diet doesn't sound too bad to me.
I would try the Tripe from Pets at home it is in the freezer.
And some pork ribs /belly pork.
My two have sardines in oil (oil drained) they wont eat raw fish.

Daisy had belly pork this week for the first time - she would only eat it when it was cut up!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Tonight she had lambs heart - her very, very favourite, and I've never seen meat diappear so fast! laugh.gif

She also has chicken wings, ox or pig liver, ox heart, and we did try her with duck, but she was not at all keen!

I want to try her with a rabbit at some point, although I have no idea where to get one from or what she'll make of it!

Thanks everyone biggrin.gif
I shall have a word with my butcher, I've already found a nice one who saves me all the lamb breasts smile.gif
Obi loves his lamb hearts too but liver needs to be flash cooked and kidneys he'll only eat frozen laugh.gif

NINE Pounds for a rabbit?!?!?!?!? *dies of shock*

My farm shop sells bunnies for a measly 3 quid, maybe you should look around if that was what you paid!

I feed my guy tinned tuna, sardines, the random offcuts of fish that you can find in the value section... plus eggs, rabbit, chicken wings, chicken necks, lamb chops, liver and whatever the hell my butcher shoves in his "offcut dogmeat" bags... =)

ohmy.gif Well Georgia you have to go to the top of the list on ST for paying the most ever for a rabbit ohmy.gif laugh.gif
I would have taken it back to the place you bought it from and asked for a refund cos if Obi didn't want it there must have been summat wrong with it laugh.gif
He sounds like he's getting a good variety though, especially if you start adding some pork, shame about him not liking the rabbit though, was it skinned?
If we haven't shot any ourselves I got a man that gets them for us, unfortunately he's just put his prices up to 75p a rabbit ohmy.gif laugh.gif

obi's_mum- 04-20-2008
Lol I know re the rabbit, I couldn't believe it either when he wrapped it up and said 'that'll be £9 please' ohmy.gif
I bought him some pork ribs which went down well, so all good and I can stop worrying biggrin.gif
Thanks everyone!

I could easily top that, but it woudn't be fair, as the rabbits sold here are fit for human consumption and meat prices are extremely high anyway. blink.gif

When I lived in England, I gorged myself on cuts I coudn't afford in Switzerland - those were the times.... huh.gif
