Hi, please can you bear with me, this is going to sound very silly but do you cook any of the food on this raw diet, ie. chiken wings, lamb breast or is it given raw bones and all. I always thought pork and turkey was not to be given to dogs but i am very interested in this diet as our molly seems to be going very hyper at the moment.

we have had molly on hills science dry food from the breederthen at 6 months we changed her onto pedigree dry food and shes now on Eukanuba but she is just getting more hyper.

Alsoshe has never been a hungry puppy and will only eat her food as and when she feels like, although she looks in great condition on this, the vet said on her pre adolscence check that she had super model body and great muscle tone.

Any advice on the raw diet would be helpful

thaks

Completely raw, do not cook anything with bones in to feed to your dog, its when the bones are cooked that they splinter and will cause problems. smile.gif

Thanks for that Sandy.

I am in dispute with OH at the mo, who says feeding raw will make any dog more aggresive and less trustworthy. So far Benji has only tried chicken wings, and he rushes around showing it to anyone he can find, wagging like mad, so I find it hard to imagine he will change, and I can take a bone away from him, if I need to.
What is your opinion?

Also, on the SYESSR website, it says and I quote: "In any case, raw bones or small bones should not be given to dogs." Who is right and why?

Thanks

laugh.gif laugh.gif Sorry I gotta laugh, a raw fed dog more agressive and untrustworthy, he ought to come down here and see my lot laugh.gif You'll find that because raw food doesn't contain artificial ingredients your dog would even become much calmer as it's a lot of the ingredients in some of todays commercial foods that make some dogs hyperactive and at times even unpredictable!

The quote from SYESSR is their opinion, I'm quite surprised actually and of course I'm going to say they are wrong but it's up to you to decide what you think is best for you and your dog else we could all end up having a huge slanging match laugh.gif All bones fed to dogs should have some covering of meat around them and I don't give my dogs large weight bearing bones like beef marrow bones as they can break teeth and splinter into big shards which are very sharp although some dogs manage fine with them. Just remember, never cooked bones!
Good for you Benji you go and shake your chick wing at your dad and watch him tremble laugh.gif Great you can take his bones away from him too, even though I say they should be allowed to eat in peace, every now and then just ask them to leave it, have a look at it and then give it back to them, they should never show reluctance in handing over anything they have, be it a bone or a sock biggrin.gif

I am in dispute with OH at the mo,

My hubby was quite against it at first and shortly after I won him round and started feeding Fippsy raw, he became one great advocate for it laugh.gif . He is only against it because he doesn't know anything about it, so how about letting him read that and that

Niknak- 04-16-2008
Thanks, both of you for that. I'll tell him to go get his reading glasses biggrin.gif

And I do allow him to eat in peace, just very occasionly I ask to see it, and then give it back with lots of praise.

Thanks again
