Hi Michelle, welcome to ST, sorry its not under happier circumstances.

How long has it been going on and does it seem worse at a particular time ie after resting, after exercising or during exercise. Can you think of anything he may of done?

To be honest if it has been going on for a couple of days, i think i would be inclined to take him to the vets. There are so many things it could be, and being such a youngster they will very rarely let pain get the better of them so will keep bounding about even if its hurting - this may make things even worse.

Sorry not much help, really hope he gets better soon. let us know how he gets on

We have a 5 month old with a sore leg too, she knocked it out running. I took her to the vet last night just to be on the safe side, and she now definitely needs to rest, only allowed out accompanied to the garden to stop any tendency to rush about. I'm thinking she'll need this rest for a few days more at least. I want to be careful, as puppyness can take over from any sense very easily, I'd prefer her to rest and not cause any longer damage.
I think maybe a quick vet trip might make you feel easier?
Hope he's ok.
