Just wondered if anyone had heard of these and if they worked and do what they say they do.

Rarely have the girls on lead probably for about 5 mins before we let them run free and I can cope with this.
We are going on hol in august and they will need to be on lead for longer . we would like to walk them around shops/Markets etc for a short while knowing that they were comfortable on lead.
We have tried everything to stop them pulling the only time they don't is after a long off lead walk and then their leads are on their backs biggrin.gif
We have Halties but they ride up into their eyes .They do stop them pulling but I don't like them and don't like to use them.

Any info on these or anything else. Don't want to spend money on these if they don't work and going to end up in the Kitchen drawer and not used.
Just seen the advert for these in Your Dog Mag

We love ours. We have tried everything. Absolutely everything, and Charlie's a strong boy - dislocated my shoulder when we first got him, and it's been awful. One day, I'm aiming for proper heel, but for now, this works. And when he's tired after a walk, we can use it as a slip lead and he doesn't pull at all, so there is improvement smile.gif
It's a bit fiddly at first, but when you get the hang of it, it's easy. If you just need to catch them midwalk for a sit down, then you can just loop it as a slip lead.

I used to have a Gencon headcollar for Lola, but I think I gave it to a neighbour when Lola became a good girl biggrin.gif
I ordered one yesterday for Morris, as he is incredibly strong (and still growing and getting stronger!) , and pulling like a demon at the moment, despite wearing a comfy nice harness... and we only have to go 50 yards before they are let off, but cos of my slipped disk, I just can't have him pulling.... so Gencon starts tomorrow -I'll let you know wink.gif

we have a gencon for both of us - excellent aid.
jasper hates wearing it and tried scratching it off, as he still has dew claws it results in blood everywhere so we've gone back to a harness with him.
Poppy wears hers if we're doing alot of lead walking

i use one on my sammy and i love it (he hates it!!!). used it for a short lead walk the other day through the woods and he was fine. instead of just walking in a straight line though i kept changing direction which kept him on his toes! he was more tired from that short lead walk than his normal long line!

Have used ours for a couple of days now, Morris tolerates it very well - doesn't even try and pull it off - he doesn't like it tho, I gave him a cocktail sausage yesterday to reward him for walking nicely with it on - he spat the sausage out and turned his head away from me laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
it's done the trick though, he doesn't pull at all. Now I just have to train him to to pull without it !

I've got Gencons for my three - they were recommended to me by Kelly ......... just love them. Once my three got used to them it was a doddle ......... took me a while to manage to get them on correctly ..... it was a bit fiddly at first ..... but now everything is fine. They walk like a dream on them ........ even Tia who I think is related to Tigger laugh.gif laugh.gif always bouncing about.

I have the all in ones - but they are a bit of a faff especially if you want to clip your dog on quickly. If you're going for them I'd go for headcollars.

One word of warning though - I rarely have my dogs on the lead so consequently they pull quite a lot so bought these for when we go on hols etc where they must be on the lead. The first time I used them we were in the lakes so they were on the lead all day everyday walking. Woody was fine but Jack's had rubbed his neck completely raw, he had a sore which was around 8cm x 3cm and it took ages to heal.

So just in case I'd recommend only using them for short periods at first. I've used it on him since and have never had the problem again but I don't use them for full day walks anymore.

As I have just been drag down the road by my 6 month old puppy I am going to order one.

What is better head collar or all in one. Also I have just measured my puppy and she came out as a small? but I could have done it wrong, What size are most doggies having?

Any one know of any good sites to get them from?

Thank you

Jenny

We have bought a gencon for Rosie our 6 month old ESS. She walks really well with it on although she does try to rub it off whenever we stop! Our friends recommended it after they had problems with their choccy lab pulling, Mable hates it but walks brilliantly to heel. Gencon have a web site http://www.gencon-allin1.co.uk/ You just down load the order form and send it off. Ours came in about 5 days.

I posted this for another person on here but I thought It might help you since I love being a cheepo with money, I always to the do it yourself first the buy the proper stuff if it doesn't work... It usually will save me money in the long run.

Walking suggestions:

I was having 'tugging' troubles with Hendrix. I took his thinner leash and looped it. I put it right tug with his jaw line. I then hook the clip back up to his collar. It should leave you with a loop of leash to hang onto. Even though it does tighten it doesn't really act like those *shudders* choke chains. Then when she tugs put tug towards your body it will snap her attention back to you. I know you can buy special leash/collars for this so do some checking. Also check out the dog whisper (goole it) he has made a special collars for walking dogs. I'm planning on getting one soon.

I hope this helps.
