Has anyone else going got a dog with tempremental recall? r will I be the only one

Rufus develops cloth ears if he thinks he's going home before he's had enough - though Stellar returns every time to the whistle - and he can't bear watching her get a treat, so he sulkingly comes back too eventually biggrin.gif

sally has extremely temperamental recall rolleyes.gif she darts off after something and sometimes just won't return, I have to physically remove her from the bushes (where she is usually digging at something) so you may well see me trudging backwards and forewards to fetch her!! biggrin.gif

jasper tends to walk with me, he is my little piece of sanity!! laugh.gif

it is most def mother's day, luckily my mums idea of a treat is to walk jasper, so she'll be happy laugh.gif

Charlie's fairly reliable on his recall, especially where there's toys about, but he has a very unsociable barking habit, so apologies in advance to everyone! rolleyes.gif

Fizz doesn't tend to go out of sight but doesn't come close enough when its time to put the lead back on.

I feel bad when we go out with impecabley behaved dogs.

Any idea how long you are thinking of walking, just so I can make plans for the afternoon.

polly- 02-19-2008
well, we might need to leave early - depending on how the pups little legs are coping...

sounds like Fizz and Rufus have the same ethos when it comes to putting their leads on and going home - Rufus even runs close enough to nip stellar on the bum, but manages to just slip out of reach when i make a grab for him rolleyes.gif He thinks its great fun

Let me know if you find a solution. She's not food or toy orientated and doesn't care how much fuss her brother is getting off me. She doesn't go out of sight but its a pain and means I can't take her out in the gap I have between work and school run because I never know how long it will take her to come back.

I might ask when we are training next week and see if she have a solution apart from saying keep working on the recall.

When we are just in the field I can get a long line on her when we are close to home and let it dangle because I can just stand on it but when we are in the woods she just gets tangled.

With Jasper, because of his age, we can't generally do massive long walks, unless my mum would take him back to the car.....we usually do 2/3 hours. x

I have to be careful not to touch the lead before i call him to me, and i sometimes throw a pile of treats down to the side of me, then creep up on him when he's troughing! - Stellar just sits and waits bless her. My son (18) doesn't have the same problem with him, but i think that is due to his ability to rugby tackle Rufus as he runs by laughing at us!

not long now biggrin.gif had a dream last night that i overslept, did not wake till half 12, and missed it completely. laugh.gif

was a bradgate park on sunday, jasper has invented a new game, which involes thrusting his face into muddy water, dragging out rocks, making a pile on the bank and going back for more. blink.gif we also found some hollow trees that the dogs loved running in and out of laugh.gif
