Well, this weekend, Charlie discovered a great love of scurrying biggrin.gif
He does fun agility, but I'm interested in trying to get his brain working more, he obviously completely loves working, he gets a special sort of contented tired.
When we're walking, I tend to stop on a big playing field to do a little bit with him - he's very ball obsessed (had to give up with the scurry when he realised he could jump over into the flyball and stuff two tennis balls in his mouth and run away). I've been working on making him sit and wait, throw the ball, and then be sent to get it. Am I along the right lines?
I spent a bit of time lost in watching gundog training on youtube, really interesting and thought I'd dig out the unused whistle that's lost in a draw somewhere. And maybe start using dummies instead of balls? Where can I buy dummies, the one I have is from Freya, so a recommendation would be great.
And any other thoughts would be gratefully received! smile.gif smile.gif

the grade one and two manuals above are a great easy to follow steps to training your dog. ull also need a whistle and dummies can also be bought from the sites shop or failing that if u put gundog training equipment into google the choice is mind blowing and you pays your money and takes your choice, dont buy orange dummies, dogs cant see orange very well so are used more for blinds get the standard green ones and enjoy the highs and frustrations of training your dog laugh.gif

i am too interested in gundog training. At the moment Ollie loves to find whatever you have thrown and he picks it up but then drops it on the way back. We are trying to get him to bring it to us but he doesnt seem to get it. Sometimes he will find whatever is thrown and stand over it wagging his tail frantically without picking it up!!

when he retrieves the item but drops it short try nudging it with your foot to get him interested then walk away after a few attempts he will soon learn that the game only starts again when he has brought it to your hand

Recommend the gundog club too, we are working through the workbooks, even if you dont use them for working there are brilliant tips in the books all at about £12 each. There are various sorts of dummies, what is high Viz to us ie bright orange isnt any good for puppies white is better. They come in different sizes, materials and colours and even stuffing from water to sand. You can even buy ones at£65 which you can shoot into the air,the site will get you going good luck mate
