Hi I am new to this. On tuesday I bougt a springer spaniel puppy we called Frankie after my father (deceased). We have since discovered him to be very poorly and today he became an in patient at the pdsa.
He was the runt of the litter and is less than half the size of the others.| I took him home and bought some puppy milk from the pet shop and some james well ebloved puppy kibble .
The breeder gave me a tin of morrrison puppy food but had until then he had gave him chum.
He developed the runs and cried alot, further investigation revealed last week he had an anti biotic injection and was given lifeaid medicine from a vet.Which I was unaware of when I bought him.
Today he had some blood in his stools and started wheezing so I took him pdsa who admitted him and put him on a drip and gave him some more antibiotic, he is in over night I am so worried he won't pull through
. What do you think this could be , I know changing food did not help his little tummy.
He is so small and has very little body weight, he has been wormed on monday.please has anyone been through this thanks
Poor Frankie and poor you.
Puppies can be prone to a lot of different illnesses and I doubt he would be poorly to this degree just from changing his food. There are so many things that could be wrong it is not easy (or even helpful) to speculate on the internet but he is in the best place.
Having him on a drip and giving him antibiotics are going to give him the best chance to fight whatever is wrong and once he is stable hopefully they will get a clearer idea what is causing his problems.
Will keep you in my thoughts and hope he has a good night and you have more positive news in the morning.
To be brutally honest, it sounds as if your pup was ill before you brought him home. Have you spoken to his 'breeder'?
thank you both of you, yes spoke to breeder who said he took him to the vet last thursday and the vet gave him an antibi, otic injection but was not sure why, my friend feels awful (she is not the breeder ,her dog is frankies dad) As far as we were concerned the problem was low body weight due to not feeding well from mum and thats all.
The pdsa gave it 50/50 . thats if Frankie make sit through tonight, I have to ring up at 11 tomorrow morning.
sorry if posted in wrong bit should of put this under health, I see there is abug going around in cornwall and thats where I am , and the puppy came from.
Fingers and paws crossed for Frankie
