Hi,
I've be doing a lot of reseach and I'm going to start on a raw meat diet(once i'm back from holiday)

A couple of questions, I struggling to get rabbits, and honestly I don't I could cope with jacket on, does any one else us prize choice and landywood instead?

And any advise on supplements as I'm finding that a bit confusing.

Many thanks.

Raw feeding isn't just about feeding Rabbits with their Jackets on biggrin.gif
You don't have to feed rabbit if you don't want too it is a good source of protein and I love watching my two eating a rabbit but its not everyone's cup of tea biggrin.gif They will survive on a raw meaty diet without Rabbit with their jackets on.

Raw feeding to me is feeding my two Raw Meaty Bones with the main ingredient being meat. Meat that they eat off the bone .

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Know the feeling Sue...................I have only fed Jenny rabbit once with the jacket and I gagged and puked all over the place. I happily feed it to her without and although more pricey, I get mine from farmers markets normally. Lily on the other hand will not touch rabbit, so I think you have to do a bit of trial and error to find out what they like.

I just introduced chicken wings at first but Jenny took to it like a duck to water so within a couple of days she was fully on raw...............thanks to selina biggrin.gif Lily has know no difference since she has been with me.......................mind you I'm sure she ate anything and all sorts when she was a stray so she really is a dustbin biggrin.gif

The only thing I buy from prize choice is their green tripe (minced as madam doesn't like the chunks and after cutting through a whole packet *spueing smilie here* ) . I used to order stuff from Redcastles in Dundee, but because I haven't got the big freezer in use at the moment I buy all her food in the supermarket. At Tescos you get Tesco value minces and pork chops from their freezer. Pork belly slices are actually quite expensive and don't contain bone. In Morrisons I get lamb breast, chicken wings, pork ribs, ox heart, ox liver, lamb kidney, lamb liver. I don't feed any rabbit either as I haven't found a source yet.

If you give a varied diet you shouldn't need any supplements. Saying this, after about a year feeding raw I got hold of a big tub of Keepers Mix from Dorwest Herbs quite cheap, so I'm adding this since (seems to keep forever that tub), whether it does any good or not I don't know. The other thing I add is Fish Body Oil (along with Vit. E) and that gives her a really nice shiny coat, just as a WSS should have. I noticed her coat wasn't so nice anymore after I started feeding raw. She is not keen in fish so i add it as a supplement. You can buy it at Zipvit on the net for an OK price.

I would recommend joining this site. There is all you need to know, better than any book, so comprehensive and loads of friendly helpful peeps.

Hi,

I've joined this group and find it very helpful.

Both dogs are doing well on their new diet, for the first time in a very long time, they both seemed really pleased to eat their dinner. Racer who never used to finish a meal, now lingers around his bowl until Murphy has finished and then goes and checks to see if he's left anything!

Have placed an order with Landywoods mainly for their minced blocks, and buy the cheap chicken etc everytime I go to the supermarket.

Racer is now having anal glad problems. Reading this site it doesn't seem that uncommon for springers. He's off to the groomers tonight, lucky him!!! laugh.gif

Thanks for all the help, I feel I'm finally feeding them right.
Nexts it's the cats diet!

If you look up post number 26158 on BritBarf there might be some helpful info/solution, as someone had asked about the anal gland problem of one of her dogs recently and she got quite a few answers.

He sounds a typical Welshie rolleyes.gif . Fipps used to be like that when on Naturediet. She def prefers the raw diet she's getting since nearly two years. I think it suits fussy eaters as it has a nice variety and they don't have to eat through 15kg of the same old boring kibble day in day out sad.gif . If Fippas leaves food behind I know I give her too much. I cut down to 400g/day and she finishes every meal.

Nice to hear both your dogs like their new food smile.gif

I knew it! I don't have a Welshie at all! ohmy.gif Rhian was fussy until after her first season, but from then on she never looked back. biggrin.gif The thing that disappears fastet is green tripe, but the liver menue is very popular too, as is the semi-moist kibble (the one Sorriso broke into). And nothing is left of the rest of the various dishes down to a common piece of hard bread. smile.gif

BTW, I always thought feeding just one sort of kibble day in and out must be utterly boring for the dog, so I fed 2 or 3 in my kibble only times.

I doubt I could bring myself to feed rabbits with the pelt on - though I would like to know what Rhian would make of it..... ph34r.gif
