Murphy is a 6 year old neutered English Springer Spaniel, his owner's are distraught at having to rehome Murphy, they have been struggling for several years with aggression between him and the other male dog in the house and they now feel that they have exhausted everything that they can possibly try, in our opinion they have tried pretty much everything

.

Murphy is fantastic with people, children especially and he's even ok with some female dogs he just can't live with another male dog and anyone taking Murphy on would need to understand that when out on walks Murphy would need to have space away from other male dogs.

Murphy walks well on lead with the assistance of a halti and his bum never stops wagging, he is in good condition and is happy to give toys etc up to you, he can be left alone with no seperation issues although obviously we wouldn't expect any dog to be left for long periods of time by themselves
Our assessor has been to meet Murphy and say's he's absolutely adorable but feels the male to male aggression has possibly become a habit within the current home, she feels that this is more a guarding of the family type issue than anything else, she feels that this could be worked with in a new environment, this might well be all it takes to break the habit with firm consistent handling and Murphy being taught that it isn't his job to protect the family, it's the families job to protect him, we would of course help and advise all we could.
A single person home or an older retired couple may be better for Murphy so he doesn't feel the need to protect 'his family'

If you feel you could offer Murphy a lovely home away from other male dog's or where he doesn't come into contact with male dog's very often so you can work with this problem please either get in touch with myself on 01752 691579 selina@dsl.pipex.com or his local Area Co-ordinator Hilary Ritchie on hilaryr@estatesgazette.net or 01963 250838
