We went back to the vets on Sat. because of Molly' s abcess,The vet took some blood out of it ohmy.gif seemed to be pleased that it did not look infected,no puss or browness, told us to bring her back in ten days to review the situation unsure.gif Yesterday her abcess looked to be the size of a pig pong ball ph34r.gif and started to bleed, not a lot at first but leaking slightly.Dressed the wound and put her collar on for bed. All seemed fine this morning and today until about 5ish, when she got up to say hello, the dressing had come off and the blood was running down her leg unsure.gif whilst cleaning her up,noticed a hole(not on the scar)just below her elbow, back to the vets as I was getting a little frantic at this point blink.gif They think it's either the screw, but most likely the pin moving slightly sad.gif and causing the problem. They are going to speak to the specialist tomorrow sad.gif Maybe have to go back in to get it sorted out ph34r.gif

I've requested a revolving door to the surgery laugh.gif Seem to have spent more time there in the last 3 weeks than at my own home smile.gif

I'm going to ask for a standing monthly visit scheduled for my crew. dry.gif

Good luck with her tomorrow. I hope it won't mean another surgery.

Sorry Tracey i forgot molly was back at the vets ph34r.gif

Is the plan for the screw to stay in for life or just until its finally healed? It maybe worth asking if its the case that the pin has just moved or is her body trying to reject it. The reason to ask is if its a case that her body is rejecting it would the same thing happen again equally if its because it has just moved, you will need to know what you can do to prevent it happening again Have you actually met the specialist or is it all done with your usual vet acting as middle man? Poor Molly and poor you.

It must seem never ending. Huge hugs to you all

Hi Sam,
The screw is to stay in long term! We have met and spoken to the specialist,he seems to be a friend of our vet.We have an appointment with him on the 21st of October, to discuss the next option re-removal of the pin! not sure if this is to be when we visit, she is booked in for an Xray on this date?? There was talk yesterday of filing it down, but will know more after 3.30 today. Everything we put on her seems to fall down, even the bandage the vet applied!
May have to take drastic action and tie her legs together laugh.gif (joking)

I don't know if you can use it on dogs, but someone may know. The stuff in a can that you use on kids - its like a spray on plaster.

Its her front leg isn't it? How about a baby pair of wooly tights pulled up with a some sort of tie that you can place over her shoulders - that may help to keep the dressing on blink.gif

This is like being on Blue Peter, unfortunately i haven't got one i made earlier laugh.gif

Tracey x 2- 09-23-2008
Baby tights are a good idea! The other problem we have is her back leg as she keeps scratching it. When we mentioned this to the vet,he said it shouldn't be a problem sad.gif How wrong he was***Need to get her claws done, but don't want to put her through anymore,I was thinking about booties,but...would they stay on?
Read about Angel and the crate sad.gif how frightening it must have been for you! Will take care in the future, thanks.

You can buy a just 1 bootie called a Mikki boot ( fromPAH), it goes upto the ankle and laces up. Its mainly meant for poorly paws that need to be kept clean and dry. Obviously it won't be able to stop the action of scratching, but it MAY minimise the amount of damage she can do.

When Angels back legs were hobbled she couldn't scratch properly - so i don't know if that would be an option as a last resort.

With regards to Angel and her crate - it just never occured to me, and i am usually Miss Health & Saftey as my family will call it. Im just so thankfull i was home and awake unsure.gif

I take it PAH means Pets at Home? Thanks for the advice! Will let you know what the vet says later....

Rather dissappointed sad.gif Telephnoned the vet at 4pm,spoke to the receptionist, she told me that the vet had tried to contact the specialist, who has been in theatre all day,but my vet wanted to speak to me anyway and could he call me at 6pm. I left my mobile no. with her and asked if he would call me on that as I had to go out, my daughter stayed in with the munchkins. I returned at 6.45,(after trying the vet whilst out)and no phone call there either. Molly's leg now has a hole in it, right on the outside of her leg at the joint, it is leaking clear fluid not blood!Have dressed it and put some vet wrap on her, but will be keeping a close check on her.To top the day off my driving lesson for tomorrow has just been cancelled mad.gif I wonder what the third one is going to be unsure.gif

Oh Tracey, is it leaking alot ie coming through the dressing? I don't really know what to suggest - it may be worth PM'ing Gundogs.inc (sandy) as she is very clued up.

Thats bad of your vet especially knowing that he wanted to talk to you - your mind must be working overtime as to what he wanted.

Fingers and paws crossed there isn't going to be a 3rd thing unsure.gif
