We rehomed Meg from Many Tears just over a year ago and I thought I would write an update.

After an initial difficult period with Jake, our cocker spaniel accepting Meg, things are now much better. They are relaxed in one anothers company, share toys and us without squabbles. Meg is very affectionate, cuddly, and well behaved. She loves her walks, swimming, food, and her cosy bed. She follows me around like a shadow - I now have 2 shadows. Meg has taught Jake to share his house, his toys and us, and has also taught him to bark when people knock at the door. Meg will be 8 at the end of this year but runs around like a 2 year old dog, and we look forward to many more years with her. She is a star and here are some photos of her.

Hi Karen, lovely to hear from you. I remember the terrible time when you first had Megan and your worries about Jake with her. I can't believe it was a whole year ago. Good on you for sticking with it and making things turn around.

Thanks for your replies. It took a good 6 months for things to improve between them. Even now we feed them separately as I feel they both deserve to be relaxed at mealtimes. However, we can feed them treats, chews in the same room now.

Meg is a real hunter though. At night time when they go in the garden for their last wee etc, there is more often than not a resident hedgehog in the garden which she tries to hunt down. A few weeks ago she actually carried it in the house and put it on her bed - still alive. Yuk, Think it might have found a new garden to live in as havent seen it for a few weeks now.

I always liked cockers before getting Meg - still do - but there is something special about Meg - dont know if its a Meg thing or a springer thing.

Brilliant!
I too had lots of problems getting my two girls to settle with one another and it is great to see someone else who doesn't give up easily. Too often I read threads where one dog has been returned after only a few days because he or she wasn't accepted by the resident dog. Whilst I realise sometimes it is absolutely necessary sometimes it can be teething problems especially when one dog has not been used to sharing. My two still do not share their special toys and are not left unsupervised with balls and squeakies. However they will now share food and beds and they have been together 7 years. Mags rolleyes.gif
