Selina told me only today about this post.Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts. Here is my post on the Pets Ireland site..which as you know carries all the horrific pictures of the dogs in the Irish pounds.Mac was one of them.
The World Canine Bog Snorkling Champion RIPMackSpringer aka Mackles was pts last week.He was surrendered into the pound at Saggart (A Dublin Pound) because his owner said he was old & useless. At the time April 2004,he was thought to be 11 or 12.
He was deaf when he came to us & the deafness was caused by a long standing chronic ear infection. In the end he had to have an operation on both ears which resulted in a little hearing gain.He therefore relied mostly on his eyesight & on air movement to know what was happening. However that didn't stop him swimming in the cuts in the bog even if he did have to be "rescued" from time to time.
Mack Springer had an international reputation & was very proud of his RAC Car Dog Harness from Crufts & his bright yellow "made to measure " fluorescent dog coat. Both of these were donated to him.He wore his coat with great pride when supervising the lunch breaks of the County Council workmen who were repairing the lane by the house two years ago. He demanded that he be paid in sandwiches.

He was a true gentleman among springers even squeezing up in his bed when another old rescued springer wanted it. (Picture of Mac squeezed up besides Selina's Flo in this photo.)

He obviously had not had many cuddles in his previous life but enjoyed lying on my feet underneath the computer table. It was a bit difficult to concentrate sometimes as he had a rather loud snore & tended to dribble over my slippers.
How we are missing him.
