My delightful snoop doggy bl**dy dogg has just destroyed my brand new nokia n95 black 8gb upgraded last week mobile phone!
In his defence it was up on the dresser in the dinning room, so my three year old, bless his cottons thought he would pass it to him.

I just wondered how long the chewing stage usually lasts for, he is six months now and as a rule anything i don't want him to chew i don't leave lying around. He has loads of various toys and chews of his own. He does the im gonna grab this whatever it may be but usually very important thing and runs off with it till you chase him, but this is the first thing he has trashed.

Has anyone any good tips on this? And out of interest has anyone lost anything funny or valuble this way? I really need cheering up sad.gif

I have to ask, who were you secretly more cross with the three year old or the dog? unsure.gif

First they say don't chase if they run off with stuff, pay lots of interest in one of their toys and swap. Not actually tired this though. Murphy chewed to about a year, but not movable items, he chewed kitchin walls, and window sile. Racer is three and half and still chews when left for too long, (not often at all really) not sure if it's out of bordom or just to pee me off.

Can you claim for a new phone on house insurance?

Edited because I forgot to add Murphy also chewed lots of DVD's and books and actually chewed my copy of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy while I was at the cinema watching it!

My two are only 19 weeks old and chewed the obvious skirting boards, walls, dvd's, the fake coals off the fire(which i now keep turned off) all my plants outside, while it has been nice these last few days, they have been chewing the garden furniture and the decking!!! The la-*test*-('") was my OH switch card tongue.gif

Do you not have phone cover with your contract?
Please tell me.......when does it end? smile.gif Mine seems to be quite mild compared to some others laugh.gif

We taught Dexter to do "swapsies" (your have to say it in a silly, high pitched voice for the proper effect) and gave him a small treat for whatever he had pinched because he would eat whole socks if we weren't careful.

Because he likes his food, he learned this trick VERY fast. The good thing is he will give up anything for a swapsie (even the bag of dog treats he pinched one day - numpty blink.gif )... the bad thing is he looks for things to pinch so that he can get a swapsie.

Being an eternal optimist, however, I am still in favour of swapsies because it means he only pinches things when we are in the house with him and at the grand old age of 10 months can be left in a room full of interesting things if he knows we're out as there's no point in pinching them. rolleyes.gif

Having said all that, he has recently revived his love affair with the TV remote control which doesn't control very much at the moment as many of the keys stick and we frightened ourselves half to death when the volume control decided it max out!!!! biggrin.gif

ok, a little good news. Marls has reached two now and no longer chews stuff up, seems to have stopped de stuffing toys and generally ceased the hooligan like behaviour.

I've no doubt I'll live to regret this post...............

Thanks will try the swapsies routine, my phone luckily is insured. they think they can also fix it. wouldn't like to be the one to open it up tho and be covered in drool! laugh.gif

I'm not that fussed really, its just material. I have recently lost two of my cats after being hit by cars and if anything happened to the dosey hound i would fall apart. especially as he is giving me those great big blimming cow eyes across the room. think its time for a make up cuddle dry.gif

Start worrying laugh.gif smile.gif That's what we thought ohmy.gif Till they fell asleep in the lounge when we were due to go out for an hour! The OH in his wisdom said to leave them be unsure.gif there wasn't anything left about for them to get at! BIG mistake rolleyes.gif They had never bothered before with anything in the lounge, because like you we give them lots of toys etc. We came home, they had chewed the wicker bin, and taken all the coals off the fire and chewed my OH best dvd! I couldn't shout at them though as I was to busy rolling about on the floor laughing laugh.gif laugh.gif

Lily chewed my Mum's phone a few months ago mad.gif We made a call to Orange though and they replaced the handset for £6 a month insurance from then on. Might be worth a try, I'm sure it isn't uncommon.

In terms of getting things back, we were advised to make up some really smelly treats and do a 'swap' with our dog, and definately not chase to get it back, it turns into a game then smile.gif

Dusty steals things all the time socks are his favourite or the mail, he tends to only give them up when i pretend i'm eating 1 of his toys and he thinks il chase him for that instead, started off swapping for treats but he soon got wise to it and ignored the treat and ran anyway. Only thing hes really destroyed was OH bank card 1st weekend we got him.

Sorry to hear about your phone, little monkeys!
Obi has never chewed anything much, the 'swapsies' thing worked fantastic biggrin.gif
Rosie my Jack Russell however chewed everything she could get her little paws on wink.gif
My mobile phone, my iPod, a battery (had to induce vomiting after that one rolleyes.gif ) a coffee table-literally through the legs, countles cushions, the arms of my new leather armchairs ( mad.gif ).. the list goes on and on! She'd actually go into pockets and bags and get things out, little swine laugh.gif ph34r.gif
Good luck!

My two managed to get the cordless phone when pups and dialled 999 while they were chewing it! Resulted in the police coming to the house as the operator thought someone was being strangled! (chewy slurping sounds!) ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

Just like 'da Bam', my Brodie has a fetish for anything plastic. dry.gif especially things like door stops, butter tubs etc.

He also destuffs toys and runs off with shoes. But he has never destroyed or chewed anything like doors, skirtings, sofa's, etc.

But..... recently, if I go upstairs and don't allow him to come with me, even for five minutes, he takes a strop and I come down to find a shredded cushion or pillow. mad.gif And he is not sorry - quite the opposite - he is hyper happy. blink.gif

He is two and a half now. I hope it is just a phase. dry.gif

The swapping thing seems to be working, fingers crossed it carrys on working. but you say about ring ing the police. Thats how we knew it had gone awol.
Me and the oh were sat on the sofa watchin the box and his mobile rings, he got it out his pocket and said why are you ringing me? we both looked at each other and just legged it looking for the boy and the dog!!!
Its very funny now, especially as the insurance people are fixing it. laugh.gif
Bless the little buggers!!! laugh.gif
