Hi. Was just wondering if anyone can help. Over the last few months Sam has been licking&biting the hair between his front pads and making them very sore. I took him to vets but he could not find anything. Does anyone have the same problem? Or can anyone give me advice? biggrin.gif

Thanks Ryan

No advice really! just thought I'd ask while you started this topic, whether anyone trims the hair between their paws? My mum used to do it with our German Shepherd. unsure.gif
Sorry to butt in!

Our 14yr old Jack Russel does this, in fact he does it to majority of his back legs and they don't look good, i feel that it is an underlying problem and we are visiting the vets with him tomorrow

I have been spraying them with bitter apple spray in the hope that this deters him from chewing and they do look slightly better

You may have an allergy problem or maybe an anxiety problem

Ernie will suck his hind foot sometimes. He will put the whole thing in his mouth.

As for the toe hair, yes I do trim, but just generally with the clippers. I would be afraid if I really trimmed close, they would get the nubs and it would itch.

Licking is very soothing for a dog, and preventing them doing it without sorting out what may be causing it can result in other unwanted behaviours.

Have the dogs anal glands been checked? Discomfort there is often connected with paw licking or chewing.....

Sam has had problems with his anal glands in the past. But i did not relise this may be connected to the paw licking. Thanks for advice smile.gif I will make appointment at vets tomorrow smile.gif
