Just discovered a fantastic campsite with plenty of choice for walking

The campsite is called Caolasnacon - 01855 831279, dog friendly and right on the banks of Loch Leven, which is a sea loch and therefore tidal. OH spent some time fishing for mackeral, we picked up mussels from the shore and had them for dinner one night (finished off with wild raspberries, also found on the campsite). A couple of seals said hello, as did the midges (take insect repellent and midge head nets or midge jackets). The Clachaig Inn (3 miles away in Glencoe), serves good pub grub and dogs are welcome.

A couple of photos of the campsite

Hey! stop giving away secrets laugh.gif

I love Glencoe and the area around it. I am lucky living on Mull because I have to travel that route to reach the central belt of Scotland. Ok it takes many hours but oh boy! it's worth it.

Rannoch Moor has to be one of, if not the most, eerie, spooky place on earth, I came over there at 6a.m. one early spring morning, the sun was just breaking through the mist which settles on the peat bog "lochs" and the mountain peaks were jutting up majestically through the mist, it IS primeaval. Fantastic!

Glencoe is atmospheric, there is just a silence which speaks volumes about the massacre which happened there.

Fantastic area to visit.

BTW you NEVER get used to the midges ph34r.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Funnily enough we stayed on Mull the week before (Calgary Bay and Fidden Farm, two other amazing places) - was going to climb Ben More, but it rained.......!!!! Iona was just beautiful though

I know the Glencoe/Mamores area quite well - live three hours drive away, just outside Edinburgh.....Rannoch Moor is amazing, walked part way through it last year, just a friend and the Black Mount for company.....Next time I'm up there, I fancy a trip out to Courror station, with a little hillwalking thrown in......(won't take the kids though).

And you're right about the midges..........flying teeth biggrin.gif
