We're finding it hard to keep Charlie at a reasonable weight recently, and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts?
He's on JWB lamb and veg, it seemed to suit his digestion the best.
Recently, due to the Jess excitement rolleyes.gif , he's back to runny poos when out. Fine at home and first on a walk, but as the walk progresses, he's gone back to excited poos.
In the past few days, he's looking really ribby again, and we're worrying. Jess is on Junior JWB and seems to be thriving. They're both getting lots more treats than he's used to, frozen kongs (mostly JWB, bit of gravy, eggs sometimes, yoghurts, nothing he's not had before), chews etc, but he's not doing massive walks, as Jess can't. He does seem hungry, and we've upped his quantity.
Any ideas gratefully received. unsure.gif

Have you weighed him Vic . . any idea how much he has lost and the timescale??? Seeing C I might put it down to Jess arriving and things need to settle down a little . . . . . . also maybe worms????? unsure.gif

There is a food Hills I Diet which I know people use with dogs who have colitis probs and don't keep their weight . . it is V pricey though, and not one I can get hold of cheap either . . . .

Hills food

How many times per day do you feed him Vic??? I would try little and often . . .maybe 4 meals . . . . .

Would he tolerate a raw diet, I know Dylan was very skinny then i put him on a raw diet lots of tripe and he filled out no end. Weighs a nice 20kgs and looks good for it.

ta Kelly.
Will weigh him tomorrow at agility. He can be very up and down weight wise, he's quite visible with it though, one week he can look chubby, next skinny.
I've wormed both of them, I think 2 weeks ago?
At the minute, they both get breakfast about 630/7, then a kong at 8. Chews at lunch and afternoon and then dinner at 5/530. But he was desperate for dinner at 430 today, fed him, and then gave him some more afterwards.

Spaceman just wrote this on another thread
'Interestingly, “time out” hasn’t been mentioned on this thread. Someone mentioned it to me on a training day when we were discussing why I couldn’t get weight on Ollie. They reckoned him being with me at work, in the house etc wasn’t giving him enough “chill time”. '

This certainly applies at the moment, he's used to people being at home all day, but he's normally pretty chilled. He's been getting 'naughty' though, from about 2 weeks before Jess came, emptying bins, etc.

That Hills is pretty pricey eh??? blink.gif
I'll try 3 meals tomorrow and see how that goes.

I have my two on three meals a day at the mo - but I haven't increased the total daily amount. I've been advised to soften the kibble in warm water and let it cool for 10mins - supposed to make it easier to digest. Good poo's in morning, going softer during the day, is a sign of overfeeding (took me a while to get my head round that!).

What treats / chews is he having? Some of them say "protein", but its indigestible protein, so that won't be good for Charlie!

Vic - you type quicker than me!

Anyone got any opinions on Burns pork and potato?

Sorry, I'm always banging on about his food rolleyes.gif It's just such an ongoing problem that I'd like to resolve it permanently if possible. Heard pork and potato variety v good for dogs with anal gland issues, and it seems really good quality.

Thanks for replies smile.gif

I don't think Burns is particularly good at keeping weight on any dogs.

Maybe he is losing weight from stress. You could consider putting Bach Walnut into their drinking water, it's for "change of circumstances" and this would apply to the situation at yours atm.

Also CSJ do some herbs which might help. The one called Heal would probably be best.

Thanks Penel, I'll order that. Have got some valerian and skullcap that I've put in their water, hoping that might help, and see that product has skullcap too.

How bout getting a TTouch practitioner round too smile.gif

Am starting dog training again next week with Jess, and the people who run it do ttouch. Might have a word with her, they know Charlie pretty well.
