Well she hasn't broken it again but it has moved a bit, not enough for surgery. She will be coming home on Monday on strict cage rest. The vet is going to give me some sedatives to keep her calm whilst it heals, i am not keen on this but if that is what it takes to keep her still then so be it. I think i am going to need some after this!!! rolleyes.gif
They have given her some anitbiotics, but still dont know if she has an infection. Anyway fingures crossed.

Thanks for all of your lovely thoughts it is really helping.

Hi Meghan, poor Abby and poor you. I know strict cage rest seems harsh but it really is the only way you can be sure that a springer doesn't spring! When you need to take her out for a wee put a lead on her to try and prevent some of the "springing"/running to a minimum.

Check with your vet if she will need a recuction in her food due to the cage rest and if you have either laminate or lino flooring anywhere ask the vet if she is ok to walk on it.

Have you got a kong? If not it may be worth investing in one and stuffing it with food - they a great boredom busters.

You have my sympathy, Angel is just starting her 2nd month of crate rest sad.gif

Good luck

Hope Abbey doesn't get too bored, what tablets have they got her on? When will you know about the infection? Molly's pin as moved slightly, and caused a hole in her leg ohmy.gif so try your best to keep her calm unsure.gif

Well i drove the hours drive to the vets today to pick her up to be told that it had gotten worse this afternoon sad.gif . They are now going to replace the large screw tomorrow to make it tighter, and pos put a plate in as it broke in more than one place and the pins don't seam to be holding it.
Poor baby girl! Thank God for pet insurance, one thing i dont have to worry about rolleyes.gif .
I didn't see her as i didn't want to get her excited and then leave her again, better she dosn't know i was there.
I am not sure what medication she will be on when she gets home, definatley something to keep her calm. I think i need to stock up on interesting toys for her.
It really helps to hear that other people have gotten through this, Thanks guys
Meg

So sorry to hear that Meg sad.gif
Obi's dad also had the screw replaced for a bigger one, I guess it must be a common complication.
He was fine after that, I hope Abbey's op goes well and that's the last one she needs!

Meghan, you must be out of your mind with worry sad.gif

If its any consolation, i think you made the right choice not to see her - though i bet it must of been hard to be so close and yet so far.

Everything crossed for the op tomorrow.

Where abouts is your vets?

I had a call from the vets this evening to say Abby would not be having her op today as they had lots of rush cases in today. So we are all a bit fed up. Its about an hours drive to the surgery as i live in Gosport and they are in Surry, and such a long way when you miss your pup. But she is in the right place which is what counts. I think my other dog Bailey is enjoying not having his hyper counterpart around, he has got me all to himself biggrin.gif
Shes first on this list tomorrow, so watch this space.

And it go's on

She didn't have her op today, as they need a bigger screw. The one she has in at the mo in the biggest dog one they do so she my need a small horse one! They have ordered it and it will come tommorow (sounds a bit like unipart for dogs tongue.gif ). She might not need it but the vet dosn't want to get in there and find that they do need it and have to open her up again. The whole mix up was becouse the vet who did the first op was off untill today, and the other vet thought he had used a smaller one the first time round. Poor little pup will have been there for a week by the time she comes home, which will hopfully be friday evening or Sat morning.

Thank you all for your healing thoughts, and comments,

Meg

Am i going mad? Abby is a springer right? or is she a adult great dane, GSD??? How come they don't do a bigger screw blink.gif Unless she is a shetland pony in disguise?!

You must be missing her terribly. So is the op definately going ahead tomorrow?

obi's_mum- 10-01-2008
Poor Abbey and poor you!
I will keep everything crossed that Abbey's op goes ahead tomorrow, and she can come home very soon.

I have managed to get a picture of her on at last, its about tree months old though.

I know it sounds a bit silly, she is only little no room for a horse screw!

angel- 10-01-2008
She is beautiful ! Poor little baby, she definately looks like a springer to me! She has the swee-*test*-('") face. smile.gif
