We have 2 Springers now 3 months old so we havent decision where to put them but at moment they are in garage... sometime we let them indoor but they make very messy and dirty on floor. I was told that they should be stay outdoor all times but we like to know what are yours? ohmy.gif and why??

Mine are indoor dogs, hosed down and crated til dry if their muddy. As mine are only pets, I don't work them their part of my family and therefore have sofa rights! biggrin.gif I understand why some people have kennels and don't thing there's anything wrong with that it's just not for me.

Anyway what would I do with my time if I wasn't cleaning up after animals and OH! tongue.gif

We allow our three indoors in our kitchen/diner mostly but during the day they spend some time together out in their pen, on occasion we have them in the lounge with us. They all seem to enjoy these arrangements and it does help to keep the dust and hair etc. to an acceptable level.

I occasionally meet a chap with 5 springers of varying ages young to very senior and most work or have worked and he boldly told me that he keeps them in house with him. They all seem to behave well and are well trained too, so I am personally not convinced that keeping your springers outside will be beneficial in their training. However from experience, taking time to train each springer individually is beneficial.

Ours started off as indoors dogs but have now moved into their kennel outside. We didn't move them outside because they make a mess, or because we were having trouble training them. We both work, and although I come home at lunchtime, prior to having their run they were confined to the house during the day. We initially built the run so that they had a secure space in the garden during the day. We've found that they actually prefer being outside, when they come in the house they get really hot very quickly and ask to go back outside.

We do believe that it can be an advantage to training, because of the amount of the time you inadvertently nag them giving commands, leave that, off, sit, stay, leave that.

It comes down to personal preference and there's nothing wrong with either way.

Angel is an indoor girl, but as she has to be in her crate for the time being, its the first time in 4 years we don't have to remove her from the sofa so we can sit down!

mine are definately indoor dogs. although they love being outside when its nice, they love their creature comforts esp when its cold!! i usually have the kitchen door open (weather permitting), so they can come and go as they please, but if i'm indoors they tend to stay with me! i'm not against dogs being outdoors and i'm sure it suits them either way, think its just down to personal preference biggrin.gif

I have exactly y the same arrangement as Steve...pen in the day whilst we're out, dog room when we're home and some occasional sofa sharing with us..this last week we were having a floor relaid in the dog room so we've had 24/7 sofa sharing and I must say my living room has never been as dirty and Im glad to have it back!!! biggrin.gif

Another member with litter mates ohmy.gif there's so many of you out there with springy litter mates atm !!! this is something I do not see in any other breed, tis bizarre !
Has your garage got natural light - can they get outside to a secure (and I mean really secure) run as well ? what Imean is - there's garages, and there''s garages - some would be perfectly suitable to leave dogs in and some wouldn't .... are the dogs your pets or do you intend to work them ? are they left all day on their own - or is there someone around ?

Inside, on the settee, in the bed kinda kids. rolleyes.gif

Is the garage heated at all unsure.gif

I thought about using my garage as part of my kennel - then sat in there for an hour on a summers day - it was unbearably hot and stuffy.

I do have a kennel arrangement. A wooden purpose built kennel 'shed' which has a sleeping shelf and dog bed, 4 springer sized dogs could sleep in there with ease. Then there is the run which in effect is just the area created by my garden fence, the side of my house and the back of my garage. It has a roof over some of it but an area not roofed to have a sun bathing spot. It is sheltered from wind and the majority of the sun.

As has been said there are garages and garages. If a dog was to be confined in a space with no light, poor ventilation and no stimulation you are asking for trouble. Dogs kept in those situations can develop behavioural problems. However it's perfectly acceptable for dogs to be kept outside in the right kind of accommodation.

I have three dogs - the two spaniels go in the mud and the river most mornings. They get a wipe over and then come into the house with us although they are restricted how much of the house they can go in whilst still wet blink.gif

Spaniels are mud magnets and if you really want an immaculate house you'll be hard pushed to keep it that way biggrin.gif

A good tip is to invest in the drying jackets from Petra, Loopylou. A good hose down or more often a wipe down with a damp towel, pop their jackets on and jobs a good un.

I have 3 and yep its hard work but it is possible to have a spot less house biggrin.gif

I have 2 Brittanys, 1 WSS and 1 Deerhound - they all live in the house. Dirt and fluff can be a problem but it is not impossible to keep the place reasonable.

My young Brittany is being trained to possibly Field Trial and the older one is a working dog - it makes no difference to them where they live, the training comes with consistency.

I currently also have my Failing Fosterer dog, Chico (about to be renamed - and I know what his name will be tongue.gif ) lives in the kennel. He seems uncomfortable in the house although he loves cuddles. I have a bench in the kennel arrangement where I can go cuddle him (and Chase who is also out there at the mo) or he will be free in the garden and conservatory.

All my dogs have settling places in the home, Brice likes either of the two rugs, Freddy likes a bench to snooze on or the top of the stairs, Chase and Mugi have crates in the living room.

I looked at using part of my garage as the sleeping part of my kennel but to be honest it becomes so hot and stuffy I decided against and the dog could become very isolated. My kennel means the boys in their have plenty to watch, either me in the garden, the other dogs or just the birds etc etc.

Mine come indoors, I have a conservatory I put them in when theya re very muddy or wet so they can leave the worst of it out there but to be honest I soon learnt that you cannot have springers and be houseproud and I know which I would sooner have wink.gif
