Many thanks for your replies, We ve changed after reading your messages... our springers now much happier than spent days in garage. They now sleep in Untiliy room also let them outside when dry days and knot their lead to the pole because of our garden removed weeds and stones then sow the seeds for grass to grow up for 6 weeks (we moved new house in country recently) so will have new fence and secured place for them running free.

I'm so pleased that you've changed how you keep them, if the dogs are happier then you will be too and will not be storing problems for the future. I'm not against outdoor housing but it needs to be the right housing and the dogs still need company.

Ours are indoor dogs when we are in and go where we go (oh how I would love to go to the loo in peace), when we are out they have restricted access to the house via a dog flap so can come and go as they please (they can also use the dog flap when we are in). When we have managed to spy on them we have found that Jack stays out all day, rain or shine and despite also having shelter and a kennel outside lays in the open. Bella on the otherhand can be found tucked up on her dog bed in the house. When we first got Woody we did use the garage during the day when we were out but it had a kennel built into it, carpet, light and heat plus a dog flap into the garden.

Big smile on my face here, very well done!

I love it when people take on board hearing what's best for their springers, make a few changes, and everyone benefits by it! your dogs are bound to be much more comfortable, healthier and safer by the new arrangements, thus making you happy cos your dogs are much happier!!

So pleased you came on and asked for advice!

Look forward to hearing more from you and about your springers...

knot their lead to the pole

Hi Edward & Pauline,
I'm really pleased to read that you've changed the dogs arrangements - do you mind me just checking - you're not leaving them tethered unsupervised are you ? they could really easily strangle themselves or each other if they are tied to a pole by their leads.....

Our 3 live indoors and have free run of the home. (I'm not house proud biggrin.gif ) although I do hoove everyday and dust most days. 2 of ours are excellent working gundogs, so just goes to prove they do not have to live outdoors to do their job, properly. But I have no problem with dogs living outside as long as they get exercise, stimulation, human interaction and their living conditions are right.

Ours are in kennels and they love it. We do have 2 of them in the house - the oldest and the youngest.

Mine have sofa rights but i'm moving soon and thinking of changing this ( if I can ) they never go upsatairs and never attempt to. I have outside kennels with run which they used to stay in while I was at work but i used to find myself worrying about them being stolen, so ,selfishly, They are now indoor dogs. I still use it when I have visitors. I'm not sure which they prefer. When I come home from work they are both asleep in their creates so I suspect they are not bothered. They go into the run quite happily and come inside happily.

My new house has a massive basement with natural light and outside access so I will probably make that the doggy room.

As I'm sat here typing this they are both running around trying to catch a fly. The fly is wining ...he he he

Slober Chops- 09-24-2008
spoke to soon the fly has been eaten.

We used to knot their lead to the pole as we dont have any secured garden yet but I realised when I free them from pole but they started to fight each other badly so was not happy the way they tied. It take us think alot what to do about them....

We put them in garage again but I know it was no window and no heat so Toby (liver/white) hate the place ....
We got giant bean bag for them rest or sleeping in unlitly room... when they come in and they run and dived into giant bean bag... that put us smile so know they are happy again smile.gif

Hope you dont mind me saying this, its just a thought, but when you say they used to fight each other badly how do you mean? Is it proper full on fighting or could it be play fighting? Just thinking as puppies they will play fight alot and some of it will look and sound quite scary at times but its really only part of their 'growing-up' process. When my boys were that age they used to be playfighting all the time and although some of it sounded quite viscious they always seemed to know where to draw the line smile.gif

Glad to hear things are a little happier for your two smile.gif

It sounds like that fence will be needed quickly, it's a far better option to allow them to move freely in a secure space than to tie them up especially if your going to have to leave them unattended for a time. You may find that it could create problems with them and using a lead as they could associate the leads with being left tied up.

Anyhow I don't think you've posted those pictures up yet and we're all desperate to see pictures of pups biggrin.gif wink.gif

erm.. they are brothers, I was told by friend that brothers are worst than unfamiliar so I was worried about them getting hurt each other when they became fighting than playfighting I though.... then we are trying to keep them separting in rooms.

How old will they settle? huh.gif

lol, very occasionally myboys will still play fight even now, but the worst of it was over and done with by about 9-10 months. It always sounded and looked alot worse than it ever was, but despite all the noise and careering around they never ever did each other any damage and I found it a good way to let them burn off the excess energy they always seemed to have wink.gif
