Since Freddy decided showing wasn't for him I have kept him in full coat as I love it, I find it very therapeutic to groom him, esp the feathers although in reality he is probably a little too well furnished.

Today though he has been in too many seedheads and knotted himself beyond ability to be groomed so we set too. Now consider I have a six year old male welsh with very lush coat, he has borne all the times knots have been teased out but today I decided enough was enough.

Out came the thinning scissors and armpits, groin and around the smelly boy bit (he has recurrent sheath infections ) have been thinned out.

The fuss that was made you would think I was plucking his hair follicle by follicle .

He now looks a little hacked but I am sure he will appreciate my hard work - someday .

Oh poor Freddy, right here's the plan............

Dex will be arriving in a plain brown envelope in the next few days, while your Mummy is busy detangling him, you sneak into the envelope and post yourself back to me.....

I know what you mean - there comes a time when you say to yourself that it would be much better for both of you if there was a little less coat. If we ever get a summer, he will thank you .

My oldest (13) only gets a trim on high days and holidays, but still "hides" by the front door when the grooming table comes out, just in case this is her turn.
