I am (hopefully) going on holiday in a couple of weeks time. I will be spending two weeks eating all the stuff that I probably shouldn't! My question is, is it alright for Vinnie to eat cr@p for those two weeks (i.e. kibble), or should I leave my parents with a big list of the contents of the freezer, and when to feed what? I know for them it would be easier and more practical to just have the kibble, but I want to do the best for Vinnie.

He probably won't be getting quite so much excercise for the two weeks, which I don't think will be a problem given his age.

So what do you all do?

Thanks in advance.

Either the dog joins me on our hols or when I have to leave her behind ( sad.gif ) i ask the person who looks after her if they mind to keep feeding raw. So far everybody is happy to give her her raw food. Even a friend of mine that is a vegetrian. I pre pack everything in bags with the exact portions. So the person just has to take a bag out, let it defrost and put it from the bag straight in the bowl (or floor). I try to make it easy and mess free for the other person.

We normally take Toff with us and take stuff to feed her raw too. We take the wholebake and some meat with us to keep in fridge (cos usually stay in self-catering cottage), you can always but some meat every couple of days from local butcher.

what kind of accomodation are you staying in? Could you store RAW in fridge/cool box etc?

We have become campers (used to go to exotic places and have waiters serving me cocktails lol) since the girls have busted their way into our lives laugh.gif laugh.gif and feed them raw the best way we can when we go away for a week or two. Mostly chicken frozen from the nearest supermarket. Have bought belly pork at a local butchers in the lake district for them but it cost more than a good joint of beef at home lol We have a fridge/freezer for camping that seems to be only for the girls lol OH does try to put his beer in there but he has no chance lol
We went away in aug without the girls and our son looked after them. I made them up individual meals for each day and put them in the freezer for our son to feed to them
(how sad am I laugh.gif laugh.gif
Chicken portions are not too difficult or messy for someone to feed for a week and it wont make any diff to them if this is their diet for the week.

I personally would leave a list with your parents and even talk them through the list, if you matrk tha bags in your freezer mon am etc it will be really easy for them, obviously they have to be happy handling the raw meat as well, but perhaps you could buy a pack of rubber gloves for them if they're not to keen.

When we go away camping with our dogs we pack a chill box with frozen meat and take out what we need every night and put ina large sealed container, it's defrosted by the morning an the rest staysa frozen/chilled til we need it.

I can feed approx 110kg of dog(s) raw for a week or so holiday providing I am not in the back of beyond as local supermarkets will top up what I can't take with me. Like Selina I thoroughly pack a decent cool box (also logically pack so I am taking out a days ration each time from the top not rummaging).

My alternatives to BARF if needed are NatureDiet, Land of Holistic Pets dehydrated food (that is my first choice for camping really as it is the best space economy and least waste generator - packaging not poop in this instance wink.gif ). I am currently trialling the boys on Bozita as now I have 5 dogs and keeping on top of raw is getting hard. The regime is RMB's as normal but using the Bozita canned as the meat meal and it is going well for them all.

If the guys stay at home with care they have their normal food regime, I write it out carefully and ensure they have easy stuff for whoever is doing the care.

I don't think two weeks in Majorca would be quite Vinnie's thing, so he will definitely be staying at home! Unfortunately, hubby was not interested in two weeks in the lake district in October. Not sure why? biggrin.gif

Sorry Fuddles, I really didn't mean to cause offence by referring to kibble as crap - Vinnie was just never keen on it. Also, it is more about having two weeks of eating stuff that his digestive system isn't used to (as I have been dieting for about eight months now, this is seriously going to mess up my digestive system!) laugh.gif Can I just take this opportunity to say that I absolutely adore whichever of your dogs is pictured on the left of your signature - I could sit and look at that picture for ages! I do hope that Vinnie is as good looking when he's all growed up!

I think I will be spending some of Sunday with my head stuck in the freezer, bagging up meal sized portions - got to take a saw to the beef chunks, as it appears to just be a large chunk of cow in a plastic bag at the moment. My parents have no issues handling the food (probably less than me - I can't stand raw meat!) biggrin.gif

Portion size frozen raw dinner, packaged and labeled with a name and whats in it here too. We went off to Florida for 18 days and I just left a what to feed list for my sister in law and she just followed it biggrin.gif She said when I got back that she didn't realise it was so easy feeding raw and on the once she forgot to get something out of the freezer the night before they got a tin of sardines for breakfast..........................sorted!! biggrin.gif

Oh havea lovely holiday wink.gif
