we did the 2 springer puppies 8 and 11 weeks old.
Life changing laugh.gif Lots of training and one to one time. Training 2 springer pups isn't easy my two just wanted to playfight together. I found I got better results by taking them out seperate and training them on their own. If I did take them out together I pegged one of them out whilst I trained the other.
I obv did take them out on walks together but not until their recall was good.
Our girls are 2 plus years now and they are brill and a joy to walk. springers have too be norty sometimes though lol
you will def need this forum . Take the advice thats given it is so valuable it cant be bought biggrin.gif
Good luck ,Have fun , be firm but kind. Be consistant with training and you will end up with 2 wonderful girls.

Thanks for the advice Jill
having the same problem, great on their own but when together all they want to do is playfight, and don't listen to any calls.

Sean, when we started walking ours I bought small harnesses - they work well for controlling the dog - and you don't get the horrible choking noise you do with other neck based collars. For recall try running away from the pups as you call them - they are dead nosey and can't resist coming to see what you are up to smile.gif

We let ours off lead on our first walk too - they are very reliant on you when little, and are happy to keep close and return when asked -

It's all good fun isn't it - OH just phoned to say Rufus is bringing me home a pigeon from his walk ph34r.gif

Hi Polly
Will definatley take on board, Can not take the girls out yet as they have only had their first vacination, at least 2 weeks to go yet. Trying recall in the house and garden.
We are off work now for 2 weeks and its a shame the timings have not worked out as we had planned outings and hoped we could take the girls. sad.gif

you can still take them out, just don't let them on the ground - the more things you can show them the better!

Penel- 08-16-2008
Definitely harnesses are better for when you start walking them.
None of my dogs wear collars in the house - I'll tell you why. When dogs play together and are rough - they can get themselves caught up. One of my friends who is a vet nurse, went upstairs (above surgery) at lunchtime to find her two springers caught together. One had it's jaw under the other one's collar, they had twisted round - and one was unconscious - the other had a damaged jaw. Because she lives above the surgery, she was able to get immediate vet attention and they revived her dog that was unconscious - the other was very very bruised......
I'm really glad you've taken their chains off - now you'll probably take their collars off too laugh.gif (and unsupervised tbh I would definitely do that, esp with two pups). As long as your garden is really secure they'll be fine in the house and garden with no collars on.

You can start practising their recall in the house and garden now too, every time you feed them you can blow a whistle - with two dogs, whistle training is much easier - all 5 of mine come to the whistle - we have individual whistle toots and a collective one tongue.gif

With recall in the house, we only calledl the name when the puppy was actually already coming back to us, that way they can't fail tongue.gif

Thanks all for the advice,
Penel what about the flee collar, when we got them they were scratching all the time, so we gave them a bath in puppy flee shampoo, and put flee collars on them.
Do you mean take the flee collar off ? we got the flee drops as well, is this over kill?
Sorry for all the questions, we did think we new a little about dogs but it seems we have been doing it wrong for so long.
I'm so glad we found ST for all the great comments from all of you, all we want is the best for the Girls tongue.gif

Have they actually got fleas ? I wouldn't leave flea collars on puppies in case they chew each other's collars, the product to kill the fleas, probably won't do them any good if they chew them !

the most effective products for getting rid of fleas are Frontline or such, most you can buy from pet shops aren't really effective. You'll need to mega hoover and possibly treat the house too, if the fleas were really bad.

seanmcfc- 08-17-2008
Not seen any when grooming, it was only as a precaution,

Penel- 08-17-2008
If you haven't seen any, and they aren't scratching, then don't worry. Dogs don't automatically get fleas. I haven't treated any of mine for fleas for a couple of years and we have 3 cats too - and none of them have fleas I promise (cos I get bitten even if there's only one flea !!).

Your two look adorable, You've got your hands full I thought one puppy was bad enough to train let alone two haha.. Good luck, look forward to seeing some pictures of them.. smile.gif
