i have tried everything that has been advised re this, im taking him to puppy training and ive tried what adv there as well but he still is play biting. his bigger teeth have just came in i think lol. well i have noticed bigger teeth and when he is nipping it is getting sore, not like little needles now.

thing is he is just after bitin my toe, tryin to get my sock. it really sore and is bleeding. i ignored him and he calmed down and then sat on couch. i made him sit then gave him his kong so he could chew on that but he jumped up on couch and bit my arm. i now have 2 teeth marks bleeding on my arm. he is pearcing the skin.i just dont now what to do. has anyone else had this

had to chemist to see if could get anticeptic cream for the bite but had to go hospital to get tetanus, and they have put me on antibiotics too.

i just feel like he is never going to stop this biting, i have honestly tried everything but it is getting worse as the new teeth appear.

ive tried teaching the off command as adv by the puppy class. when he bites i dont shreak, jump about or chase him to encourage this behaviour. we dont play rough games to encourage him. i have been praising him when he is good and give him plenty of chew toys top play with but vary them so he doesnt get bored. i leave a houseline on him when he is in the sitting room with us so that if he starts then i put him in the kitchen for a min or a couple if he keep on doing it that day. we have been consistant with this and i dont allow him out with the girls if i am not there so he doesnt learn bad habits. ive tried a tin and a bottle filled with stones but he likes this noise.

i am just at the end of my teather, i really want to keep him. he is a great dog when he doesnt nip. he just likes to either bite to play or grab trousers. when he grabs the trousers ive tried the turn and ignore him and he does stop for a min but then he comes to the front of you and tries to jump up and bite. i put him out the room and he is ok when comes back but then he does it again.

just dont know what to do.

I'd guessing he's about 5 or 6 months if his adult teeth are already coming through...

An ignoring or distracting method will only work if you keep at it - a lot of people give up because they don't believe it's working after the first half a dozen times - you must keep it up because the dog is only doing it because he's discovered it works, when it stops working (ie you are ignoring him) he will try harder, and this is when most people give up.

A couple of questions - what food is he eating? How much excercise on/off lead is he getting? What's his favourite game and how often does he get to play it? Is there somebody with him all day/most of the day?

Don't give up!

Have a look at the other feed on 'manic puppy nipping' - our puppy George sounds like he's only slightly older than yours and he was mental until very recently - I really think it is a phase they just have to get through!
He bit sooo much we had cuts and scratches and tears in our clothes everywhere!!! we were at the end of our tether and it just wasn't enjoyable having him round! - and when I say not enjoyable I mean actual pain a lot of the time! sad.gif
But this last month he has calmed down soooooo much! sooo many more of thos elovely moments and almost no manic biting moments wink.gif
also he got worse before he got better so you could be on the verge of cracking it!!!!
Things that really helped us were:
- ignoring him when we first come into contact with him - even if we just left the room for 2 mins we would ignore him when we first saw him again - he would go mental & bite for attention for the first few mins then when he finally left it alone and went off to settle (sulk!) somewhere we called him over by his name and stroked his head and neck area - he just melts on the floor and goes super submissive if you've left it long enough - this really seemed to show him who was boss like nothing else and set him up on the right tone for the rest of the evening!

Not amiracle and we still had manic puppy moments - but much less frequency and we seemed to gain more control....

mid puppy moment?
we had to resort to grabbing him by the scruff and plonking him in his crate for a 10 min time out till he calmed down! (I know alot of people will disagree with this method but it was the only thing we could do)
anyway - the other post was more expansive but I really wanted to give you some encouragement because I know how you feel! and I think we're just a small amount of time ahead of you so I'm sure you'll crack it soon!
let me know how it goes!

Do you make any vocal discouragement at all when he bites - I was told to react saying OUCH loudly, which is the human equivalent of his littermates yelping.

I did this with Daisy, then walked away from her straight after. Seemed to work for us.

Meg is going through this and its driving me mad. To stop the biting of my slipper and feet, I dab on a couple of drop of tea tree oil...she hates it, trouble is I cant put it on all my body biggrin.gif
