Hi all, just wanting some advice on what to do about Obi's worsening fussiness!
You'd think that he would be thrilled to bits with his raw diet but in fact he's being a real pain in the neck at the minute mad.gif
I feed all three dogs twice a day and they all usually have chicken for breakfast and lamb breast or meat, offal, rabbit or whatever for tea.
The trouble is Obi will usually eat some of the chicken but then nothing else, I literally have to handfeed him his tea, especially rabbit.
Yetserday I tried to give him some leg of lamb (obviously intending to take the bone away when he'd eaten the meat) but he wouldn't even look at it, in fact he kept running away rolleyes.gif
This has been happening more and more recently, and I'm thinking I should probably feed him once a day so he's more hungry.
I was intending to give him nothing at all today then give him the lamb again tomorrow, does that sound ok?
What really annoyed me this morning is that whilst I was round at my mums' he made a beeline for a bowl of WINALOT my mum feeds her dogs and started eating that ohmy.gif
Anyway, sorry a bit of a ramble but just looking for reassurance that once a day feeding is ok?

Suppose I'm lucky mine are now less fussy being on raw stuff. Racer who I stuggled to get to eat dry, will try and eat the dry food of any visiting dog. I think it's just because they know it's not theirs. You know, I want it because you do want me too! biggrin.gif And I haven't met a dog that wont eat cat food, Mine used to know where the cat food was kept at my mum's and they would race through the door and rush to find the cat food, whether hungry or not.

A few books I've read say dogs should only be feed once a day and straved one day a week. I don't personally do this. But lots of people do only feed once a day.

I'm sure Obi wont strave!
Good luck

afraid i dont have this problem as Ollie loves the raw but im sure Obi will eat when he's hungry. My sister has only fed hers once a day for years.
Good luck

Fipps used to be one fussy dog, what helped me was:

she's fed once a day and that in the evening

since she's spayed she eats better

cutting down on the amount I feed

not giving her the food she really doesn't like (raw fish for example)

Is Obi still under one? Some pups can go through phases were they eat like loonies a couple of weeks and than they hardly touch their food.

Don't worry too much (I know easier said than done rolleyes.gif )

Dogs wont starve themselves they don't put themselves on a diet

You are prob feeding too much . Sounds like you are feeding very good food but to much of it. Dont go there with the hand feeding . put obis food down if he hasn't eaten it within 10 to 15 mins pick it back up put it back in the freezer/fridge and feed again the next day.
He will not starve his survival instinct will kick in when he is hungry. I do understand the winalot munching at your mums. My son feeds kibble to his boxer (he thinks i am a mad women feeding raw lo) when my two were pups they always made a beeline for the bowl of whatever kibble he fed and hoovered it up. He knows now that when I go to his home the first thing I do is pick up the kibble and put it out of the girls reach lol I never believed that it was good food for them just because there is something in it that is morish. I love Pringle's and once I pop I can't stop or so the add says biggrin.gif and they are right laugh.gif Add was a few years ago but it is still etched into my brain lol
Give him his tea if he doesn't eat it take it away . Honestly he wont starve himself.
Relax and remember you are feeding him the best food. Lucky Boy.
My two girls have days when they snub their noses at the very best food i could ever put in front of them. lol
Ps If the leg of lamb is raw don't take the bone away let him eat as much as he wants too and put the rest away for the next day.
