can someone experienced in raw feeding help me out a tad. my rescue boy since i got him about 3 months ago has always had a bit of a dicky tummy, i fed him jwb the first 2 months then skinners hypoallergenic forthe last month all to not much avail. he has had a perticularly ongoing case of the trots for the last week often leaving me a present on the kitchen flor when i get up and in his crate during the day. so i whisked him off to the vets last thurs for a check up, his temp is normal and the vet seams to think that the food is just not agreeing with him. so i asked about raw feeding and he said well give it a try for a month and see if it improves any. he is wormed every 3 months etc. so last thurs was his first raw meal and as he is abit loose he had 3 chicken wings for tea, half a pound of turkey mince for brekkie then 3 chicken wings for tea again. i know this volume of food is under what he should be eating for a lab( yes i know he is not a springer but his constant pooing is making my girly springer turn her nose up at the smell) he has been ok for a couple of days till yest day and last night when he is back to having the trots. my sister is getting fed up of cleaning it up every afternoon as she goes to mine to let them out. i had read that the bones do aide digestion and harden the poos up so really i suppose how long should i keep feeding raw till i either know hes improving or not. i know its usually best to introduce things gradually but for my sisters sanity something had to change and dramatically. any help on this front would be much appreciated

Is it possible that he has an intolerance to poultry? When Sage had a dodgy tum as a pup, we fed her the normal boiled chicken to try and solve the problem, it just made it worse. It turns out chicken, turkey, kibble with any kind poultry in it will have the same effect. We found we could feed her on lamb kibble, although we now feed the frozen tripe blocks with mixer biscuits.

Just a thought.

plain mashed potatoes to help his stomach calm down for a few days then restart with the raw.

Personally I give bones in the morning, because of the instant energy they get from them and then soft foods in the evening. smile.gif
