I know I haven't posted in a while but I've been seriously busy.

Please send healing thoughts out to Rafi though, he went in to be neutered yesterday morning, the vet said we could probably pick him up about 3ish. Received a phonecall from vet at 1.25 saying we could go pick Rafi up, we picked him up to be told that the op went ok, but there was still a little weeping from the incision, nothing to worry about. 3 hours later the incision was still weeping and his scrotal sack had ballooned in size, result a trip straight back to the vets.

On arrival the vet examined Rafi and said they would have to open him up again there and then, however due to the lateness (4.30ish), they would have to keep him in overnight at OUR cost. I read them the riot act and told them that, that would be sorted out later and to do what was neccessary to sort Rafi out.

Apparently he passed a quiet and very subdued night, was on a drip, two kinds of painkiller, antibiotics and was having Arnica (sp?) cream applied to his swollen bits. I went to see him this morning and received the very fain-*test*-('") of tailwags from him, still very subdued he isn't eating. I spent almost 30 mins with him and managed to get him to move around the room once or twice, (something he wasn't doing beore, ie he'd take 2 steps and then sit down).

I've just been in contact with the vets again, he still isn't eating and has therefore been put back onto a drip and will be spending another night in the "hospital". I could've wept when i saw the bruising and swelling he still has, it looks as though someone has just opened his legs and repeatedly booted him there. I still don't know whether they will be demanding i pay for his hospitalisation or not, to be honest i don't really care, all i want is my my pup back home.

Please send Rafi some healing thoughts.

Regards
Roy.

Oh no, poor darling sad.gif

Obviously it's the least of your concerns at the moment, but I hope you don't end up having to pay, was he bleeding into his scrotum because they hadn't tied off a vessel properly? If so I should hope they would put things right at no cost to you.

Loads and loads of healing thoughts coming Rafi's way, I hope he is home and feeling better soon.

Gentle cuddles and positive thoughts for the poor baby boy xx

ooh, ouch, poor love... sounds like a haematoma - caused by a blood vessel not being tied off properly (I had a similar experience myself after having a baby ohmy.gif ) the bruising probably looks worse than it feels for him, though the swelling must be very painful -hopefully he will get over all the upset soon and be home for cuddles -

Best wishes

Pol

Thanks peeps, have been back to visit him this evening, got a bigger tail wag from him this time but he's still very subdued, my springer has lost his spring sad.gif. Back on a drip too I'm afraid as he hasn't eaten anything other than what they've managed to get into him by syringe, well, I say that, the little booger managed to eat all his James Wellbeloved dehydrated liver treats that I took him biggrin.gif.

They said we could take him for a little walk down the street and the nurse came in to disconnect his drip, in the end we told her not to bother as it was causing Rafi more distress her messing around trying to A: cut through the tape that had strategically been placed over the line to hold everything in place (including the connector) and B: disconnect the line as she didn't know whether it screwed in right or left handed.

I would have said it's been a comedy of errors, however it is rapidly building into a catalogue of errors instead. All I want is my pup home and yet he has to stay another night in a practice (right effing word, maybe once they've finished practising they'll get on and do the jobs properly) that I'm rapidly losing confidence in.

Night night Raf's, sleep well fella xx

Bit of a nightmare for you – he’ll bounce back, you can’t expect him to be normal after a double whammy of anesthetic.

You’re right – get him sorted “whatever” and sort the bill afterwards. These things happen – I wouldn’t throw my toys out the pram, read them the riot act, lose my rag etc. Banging the table doesn’t achieve anything.

The bill - I wouldn’t expect to pay any more than the original castrate price quoted. If that’s what they do, then I wouldn’t fall out with the vet about it.
