Hi all

Very early days here, we can't even walk Bella for another couple of weeks til vacs are over with, so planning ahead as I am assuming she will pull biggrin.gif

I really would like her to walk to school and back the several times a day we do and then on for a run about, but if she pulls like a loon, I have no chance with bags and children and other dogs around blink.gif

We have a half check and a Halti here as DH went a bit mad in PAH rolleyes.gif and I have lots of time but wondered what people's experiences were with any of these - or none of these!

Many thanks!

Normal collar, little reminder and you'll be there wink.gif Fancy swapping the "leaping" Missy Moo???....... tongue.gif Would say you are nearly as close to the beach as me....great flat ground.... biggrin.gif

laugh.gif no thanks, I'll give Missy a miss!!

ok, will try her out in the garden once she is more used to the chickens as at the moment she barely remembers to toilet cos all she wants to do is fuss around them!

I use a half check and train wink.gif but I was very impressed with the Canny collar as the lead is in the natural position, at the back of the neck, unlike the Halti where the lead is at the front blink.gif blink.gif

I didn't get that about the Halti at all!! I think I might return it all, maybe keep the half check altho the softy in me doesn't even want to try that rolleyes.gif

I presume Canny Collars are an online thing, esp in this neck of the woods, so will see how I get on then might send for one if I am getitng nowhere!

Many thanks!

As long as the half check is fitted correctly, its just like a flat collar, the rings should meet and there should be the same gap as with a flat collar.

With a halti, you clip underneath the nose, with a Cannie the clip is at the back of the neck, like a flat collar wink.gif

If its any help i used a half check on Angel since she was about 16 weeks - shes 4 now and we have never had a problem with it.

If you google canny collar there are loads of sites that sell it so it will be just a case of finding the cheapest!

and when you find the cheapest let me know, cos Sam liberated his brand new one at the Fling rolleyes.gif

i would go with half check or normal collar and train. When Oliver was first out and about i used to only lead walk him and he was good, but then when i started taking him out in the car and letting him free run he became a nightmare on the lead. I am now going back to basics with the training.
Good luck

Personally, I'd be very careful doing any training on the school run, as it's all to easy to realise you're running late and let all the training go out of the window just so you get there on time - this just teaches the dog to pull more.

By all means us the Halti (or similar) to maintain control while on the school run, but make sure you also get short 'walking on a loose lead' training sessions with just a flat collar and lead as well.

Oh no, I meant I want her not to pull when I eventually start taking her with me on the school run. Cripes I have trouble keeping my tribe under control at times, never mind a dog who is just learning smile.gif
