Hello all,

Need some advice - Old Rufie boy looks like a walking rug at the moment, his coat is really long and curly - lovely condition though...

Should I get him groomed (have a mate who is a groomer) - personally i love his curls, but what with the heat we've had, and him being brown, would it be kinder to get him cut or thinned or something?

Think we need a photo before making a decision!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Also, have you read the grooming page on here? Or ask Mary, the groomer extraordinaire!

I think he's beautiful, and if he doesn't mind being brushed? I only get Charlie cut cos he really really hates being brushed..

I was thinking the same thing; a good brushing (I use a furminator) to thin out his coat and he will look even more gorgeous!! I know I've read of different ways to accomplish this on the forum. I'm sure the pros will step in and help.

what is a furminator?... sounds serious laugh.gif

my springer gets a total skin head for the summer, she looks like a jack russell when its done but im sure its better than carting a thick long coat around and she looks 2 stones lighter cos it grows outward on her sides she looks like a pillow on legs biggrin.gif

Polly, I use a metal comb with elastic through it to get all the dead hair out of Daisy's coat - it comes out in handfuls!

Have a read of the grooming page on the main site, and search the other forums for advice for other doggies and the tools other people recommend.

Metal comb or had strip. I have a Furminator and I'm still up in the air at the moment about it. It's fab at stripping but I'm not too sure about the brown when it comes back.

metal comb and rubber band for Rubes but it does take ages - i have a rip off Furminator and it doesnt work on Ruby sad.gif

have used the thinning scissors to thin out her years though

have to do sections at a time as she gets bored blink.gif

I did try and do Dan myself at first, but he has such a felty undercoat it mats really quickly if long, even if I brush him every day. So they both go to the groomers. I am really lucky in that where I take them will groom and clip them exactly as I ask, so don't get the full skinhead look - leave some feathering and ears.
